I have used AHB-1 Blackouts before in previous guitars and have always liked them. I never had the chance to use the 7 string AHB-1 Blackouts until now. I have a set of AHB-3 Blackouts in a different guitar and they sound very similar. I wish there was a neck option to complete a set. The bridge pickup has a good thump to it as usual. Installation was easy if you follow the correct wiring diagram. A good friend of mine has a LTD with a single AHB-1 in his guitar and it reminded me of how good these pickups sound. I will definitely be getting more. 6, 7, and 8 string. I have a set of alt. Metals, AHB-2, AHB-3, and not neither one of these are holding back anything.
Sound
Very aggressive, clear notes. Floor rumbling lows. Very hot pickup.
Ease of Use
I have it installed in a Ibanez RGDRB71 to replace the D Activators and wanted an active sound. I had two different sets of pickups previously installed in this guitar and it took the Blackout to finally wake it up. I have it tuned to drop G and nothing was lacking or missing after installation. I found that the D Activators and the Nazgul/Sentient lacked low end for my taste. Sounded kinda muffled or stale.
Manufacturer Support
I have been on a Seymour Duncan spending spree for a few months now. They make great pickups. The Blackout series are my favorite choice of pickup for almost all of my guitars. I will continue to keep buying more.
