My parents bought me a Rockwood by Hohner kit as my introduction into the drum world. I was 11... and I played that thing until I was 22 and realized I had the money to upgrade to a known brand. It was only then that I started learning about how drums made the way these guys are are typically considered low quality. I always loved my guy! Let's go on a journey, shall we?From 11-13, I played it using everything it came with. The Pearl cymbals, the stock heads, the snare, the hardware. I was perfectly motivated. The snare wires broke when I was 13 and, as someone who didn't realize there was an easy fix to that, I got a new snare. I totally just went off of how the new snare looked -- it was lost in a move, so I can't speak to its brand or material. I think the head was Remo? Anyway, no difference. At 16, I was a little annoyed that my toms didn't sound like the toms on songs I heard... because I was a silly goose who didn't realize that toms get absolutely perfected! I thought that meant mine were out of tune. My drum teacher, who had a bit of a crush on my mom, came over to tune them and... told me that they were actually better than some of the most professional kits he had ever played! He barely had to tune them at all... again, I was just a silly goose. At 18, my hi-hat pedal gave way. I got a new one. End of story. At 19, I did a lot of cymbal and drum head research and finally replaced those. I do have to say, even though I didn't really realize how low quality the cymbals were until I actually started looking around, it did motivate me more. As for the heads? Yeah, those too, and I had learned how to tune *decently* by then, but the difference wasn't quite as stark in my heart as the cymbals. At 21, my kick pedal was starting to really annoy me. I got a new one. End of story. At 22, I thought "well... if I'm upgrading anything anyway, might as well upgrade EVERYTHING!" and invested in a new set of shells + new snare entirely. I took a note from my favorite drummer (at the time)'s book and invested in an SJC Tour series. I put my Rockwood in storage, end of story. If both my Tour series and my Rockwood were sitting in front of me, tuned the same way, same heads, same cymbals, same hardware, which would I be more inclined to go play? Man, it's 50/50!All of this to say that you see a lot of folks saying you should buy used so you're motivated to practice, and, while I don't disagree that that's probably the best route to go, my little buddy never deterred me from wanting to practice. Sounded great, held up for years and years. The cymbals and kick/stand that came with them had room for improvement, but I truly didn't even realize it until I played something else.If you want a new kit and you're working on a thin budget... go for it. It'll last you!

After I replace the heads, Plan to keep it for a long time
Sound
The cymbal's were the first thing I replaced, But I knew that when I bought the set, What do you expect for $300 !
Features
For $300 , You get what you pay for, Just the basics.
Ease of Use
Very playable ! Wish it came with a DVD instead of a tape for setting it up.
Quality
Seem's to be fairly well made , Nice finish, I got the black set, Love it ! The heads could be better, But again, For $300, What do you expect!, But they are playable with a little muffling.
Value
It's worth $300 !
Manufacturer Support

"I Love it, just a few minor tweaks."
I would probably keep this set, maybe sell the heads and get new ones down the road, and deffinately buy new cymbals, and a double bass pedal, but other than that I'm most likely going to keep this.
Sound
Not bad...some tuning and muffeling should do the trick, replacement heads are another choice, but for a beginning drummer, I suggest muffeling the heads.
Features
I dont really like the cymbals, for the fact tht the crash is a little too thin for my taste, and the hi-hat cymbals are a little to thin also, but just about everything else is fine...Maybe some adjusting on the bass pedal, but thats it.
Ease of Use
I figure that if you know what your doing, the set will be easy to use. Tuning is probably the only thing you need to know, the rest is common sense. I suggest reading online to find out how to tune it.
Quality
Its made very well, for beginning drummers. If you have experience on the set then I suggest a 6 or 7 piece set. But its not like if you bump into the set its going to fall apart, its can take wuite the beating.
Value
compared to any other set this one is a little expensive, for the fact that the drum heads are the cheepest ones I have seen, I muffled my heads but I would rather save the hassel by getting oiled heads, if they came like that then the set would probably be worth a lot more than its listed.
Manufacturer Support
I didn't have any probelms that I would have to resort to calling the company. I gave it and 8 because the set is made good, but I don't remember any number to call them.
The Wow Factor
I gave it a 9 because I like the color I got, (black) but I dont like the cymbals, I'm not sure why.

"This is a very nicely priced drum kit."
Verified Purchaser
zZounds has verified that this reviewer purchased this specific product from us.
Sound
This is an inexpensive drum kit, so the drum heads and cymbals are low quality. They sound fine, and are very adequate for practice and for a beginner. I have checked, and replacement heads and cymbals are very pricey. This would be something to consider if using the set for live or studio situations.
Features
Everything you need is included.

"I HATE THIS DRUMSET!"
Everything is horrible
Sound
This is awful. The sound is so bad. everything has to be replaced. heads, pedal, seat, stands, cymbals. I really go ripped off. I don't know about the 11 other people but this set is not worth it. This set is worth about $100.
Features
EVERYTHING has to be replaced
Ease of Use
I Have to wear head phones so i won't hear how bad it sounds.
Quality
It's horrible. nothing can adjust. i spent an hour just trying to adjust my toms.
Value
This set should be worth baby $50.
Manufacturer Support
Actually i looked up the company and found them. i looked all over there website and emailed them and there is no such thing as Rockwood.
The Wow Factor
