Im gonna give it a 9 because of the preamps. I mean I know that shouldnt knock it down a whole point. But that much for a unit and they couldnt throw some above average preamps in it ahhh. But I love it and I would never get rid of it. If your reading these reviews to scope out if you should buy one. Do it its worth it and it looks great in candle light.
Sound
The sound is great. Besides for the preamps. I noticed some pretty bad distortion with them and after a little research turns out alot of them were sent out with defected/bad preamps. They said to use the sound analyzer and distort the preamps so far to where they'll go back to normal, but you have to do it every so often, so go with a outboard preamp on that one. But the rest of the it is awesome!!!
Features
I like the monitor/mouse/keyboard feature. I was on a medium skill level when I got the unit so that sold me to it because I figured it would be easier seeing since I have used computer based recording forever and never a hardware recorder. Motorized faders, Automation, Tons of inputs. One thing that did get me a little ticked was there is no usb. Yet the 2400 has a usb?
Ease of Use
Like I said I never used a hardware recorder. But 20 hours later 17 mountain dews and a few snickers I figured out everything I needed to get a recording down. But it did take me like 4 hours to figure out how to get the fx to work lol now I can do it in 1.2 seconds flat.
Quality
Ive punched the armresting part of it a few times under stress and the hdd still works soo? lol I read a story of somebody who took theres with them on the road and it was dropped out of there van and it still turned on. So quality is good. Still buggin the preamps tho.
Value
I paid 2000 for mine and I got the cd rack burner that I was told is valued at 595 brand new if you can find them. Id say its worth it. Great step up from my peavey 8, cad gxl 2200, and p3 800mhz pc.
Manufacturer Support
Never needed it. The manuals are crappy I guess. I never really looked thru them, And I got a tape with mine but I dont have a vhs player haha whats the world coming to?
The Wow Factor
I think I had more dreams about it then I did my girlfriend. I mean when the lights are off, candles are burning, its raining, and my gf looked at me and told me she loved me I said "shhh my recorder is scared of storms"

"Roland VS-2480"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
My Cubase has done me for many years now but the VS-2480 will take over. I would definately replace this one with another...
Sound
The sound is excellent for both the spoken word and music.
Features
I got the 2480 fully loaded with three effects cards (6 effects channels).......excellent. I would recommend getting more than just the two channels that come as standard.
Quality
Excellent build quality....it feels professional.
Value
For what I payed (1450 pounds UK) with three extra effects cards, I would call that value for money.
Manufacturer Support
I have not needed any......
The Wow Factor
Until Roland make the successor, this must be the best digital recording machine on the market. I will not be parting with this one.
