I ask a lot of drums these days and I'm very selective when purchasing acoustic drums, so I find myself a very harsh critic of this (and other) electric drum sets... at the end of the day however, I LOVE this drum set and I can barely pull myself away from it. After playing the simmons, alesis, yamaha and roland kits in the store I'm glad I went with the best. Get the Roland - you won't regret it.
Sound
The only (slight) disappointment for me was in the sounds. There are some GREAT sounding maple-like kits in the TD-9 and many of the kits sound very realistic. However, excluding all of the 'throw-away' gimmick kits that make up more than half of the bank, most of the kits are too similar. Simply one dimensional variations of the same kit (ie: different tuning and muffling applications). They all sound like a DW maple kit with your typical rock tuning to me; which might be exactly what you are looking for. I found it wasn't possible to create the sounds that I like or prefer... for example I have a birch snare that is deep and characterful but still has a lot of bite; it can be tuned up tight without loosing any of it's depth or nuance. With the SP-9 you can't really get a deep snare without the loose and saggy drum head sound and if you 'tune' it tightly you only get a really dry, flat snare sound. My experience with the toms and kick were more of the same... The ride cymbals were probably my least favorite however... there is not a single 'thin' sounding ride in the bunch and no manner of adjustments (size, ambiance etc) can really make a thinner sounding cymbal from the stock list. Perhaps I am asking too much of this device as it is worth noting that the sounds it comes with are very realistic; and again if you like that DW rock kit sound you will LOVE the sounds in the TD-9.
Features
The TD-9 has some great features... the click/tempo is nice even though it doesn't subdivide. The quick record/playback, play-a-long tracks, and mix-in features are all fantastic. It is a great tool for learning or even pushing your skill to new levels.
Ease of Use
A '10' hands down.
Quality
This is a very durable and well designed kit... You can recreate any physical setup you might have with an acoustic kit and the adjustments are fast and easy. It can take hard drumming.
Value
I think that the TD-4 is personally a better value, but you still get a great product for the price with the TD-9. The features of the TD-9 make up the difference, but if your priority is only good drum sounds without all of the gimmick 'percussion/alt' kits than the TD-4 is just as good for less cost. The pads themselves are a great buy and every bit worth the money.
Manufacturer Support
So far so good.

Nothing else to say. BUY IT!
Sound
This set sounds ridiculously good. I use some AKG headphones and the sound is simply incredible. I'm a fan of the Tight Kit preset, although all 50 built in kits have their own unique sound.
Features
Has everything I could ask for... and I'm one of those guys who has to try every feature. The triggering options, muffling, and tuning are so realistic it's insane.
Ease of Use
I put it together in less than an hour. I was jamming with my Ipod in no time at all. The menu is easy to read and navigate the new mesh snare head feels just about like the real thing.
Quality
The best! I've owned some previous versions of the Vdrums and have never had a problem. I don't expect any with these. The sounds are amazing, the kit is amazing, basically this set rocks.
Value
The best bang for your buck, hands down. You could buy the $5000 vdrums, but this set here sounds amazing, looks awesome, and puts you right in a rock concert when using the built in songs or an mp3 player.
Manufacturer Support
I haven't had any problems with the set at all.
The Wow Factor
Not sure if you can call these "sexy," but chicks dig drummers... I mean come on.

"The Best Electronic Drum Machine At A Reasonable Price."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
There are more expensive Vdrums out there but due to this third party company that sells software that can emulate almost all Drum Machine OEM, its the best bang for your bucks.
Sound
The module is capable of realistic rendition/emulation of Acoustic kits, and the pads are all sensitive. The better your amplification, the results will be staggering.
Features
It has USB to make use of WAV music files, either to follow drumless tracks or jam-in with your favorite music. and also Mix-In jack for all your MP3s. But the best use of USB is, having one software company selling emulation Kits for all Drum Machine OEM in one package, which will complete your drumming style and further use in studio recordings, which i think the functionality is beyond the price of the TD9 itself, costing only a fraction.
Ease of Use
Very easy, its like assembling a chair from Ikea products. The manual is very clearly stated, its functions and uses.
Quality
I am not sure of the quality, everything comes from China, but from my experience, it feels durable, the only delicate product is the Module and the Snare having mesh pads. Definitely it's quality assured by Roland itself.
Value
A bit expensive but everything has a price to it. I can only say "Dont settle for anything less".
Manufacturer Support
I am using it less than a month, and no problems so far. and i can not comment yet on the support.
The Wow Factor
Yes, its my dream actually. Now its fulfilled, thank God.

Roland TD-9S V-Tour Kit Customer Review

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

I have had this kit since spring 10'. Lots of fun and a great beginner kit. there is a significant difference in the mesh and rubber heads. The rubber heads are functional but the mesh is more responsive to the sticks. the module produces great sounds. I have it hooked up to a PA and it sounds great. My only complaint is that the high hat can be sketchy when getting every note to produce sound. You can also plug in your mp3 player and rock out!! no problems with zzounds, got here quick.

Overall it is the best bang for the buck that you can get.
Sound
I have had this product a few weeks now and I am very happy with the Roland product. I used to have a Simmons SD9K but this is so much more better. The sounds are very good and realistic and deep.
Features
Very easy to use features and I would rate it a 10 if not for the V-tour 20.
Ease of Use
Very easy to use and set up. Out of the box took about 30 minutes to unpack and put it all together.
Quality
Excellent Quality. I wish this kit was available while I was playing the club circuit back in the late 70's and early 80's. When you can pick up the rack and mount the heads and cymbals in 5 minutes for a gig, nothing comes close to that in acoustic sets.
Value
I would of liked to own the kit with the mesh heads, but it was out of my budget while the snare mesh is excellent.
Manufacturer Support
Very good
The Wow Factor
If you play it, you will want it!

"Excellent for practice, keeping family and neighbors happy. Excellent quality"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Features
Things I like: - Good set of sounds (50 different kits) - Massive amounts of control in how each drum/cymbal sounds and reacts - Can change tempo of pre-recorded song list Things I don't like: - I suggest a counter, such as counting hits per second. Would be beneficial for practicing. - The "quick record" won't record from minijack input. In other words, music from your iPod wont get recorded, but your drumming will. - Easier control over metronome "click". It resets to "120" very often. - Better user interface. A lot can be done, but I have to keep going to the book. - There is a small but noticeable delay when "choking" the cymbals
Ease of Use
Things I like: - Easy to set up - Great packaging - Sturdy
Quality
I've had it for a year with no problems at all. Love it
Value
It isn't cheap, but it is worth it
Manufacturer Support
Haven't needed to use support.
The Wow Factor
Acoustic drums look cool; V drums not so much. It isn't a problem with the specific product, just a generality.

"BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK...HANDS DOWN!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Between the quality of the sound and construction of this kit, I don't think I'll be looking to upgrade for quite some time.
Sound
Amazing. I just upgraded from a TD-6 to the TD-9s and the difference is incredible. The sound this module produces is deep and rich. The only reason I gave this a 9 is because I think a 10 is reserved for the TD-20. I played the TD-12 at the store and I believe, at least to MY ear, this module is right up there with the TD-12.
Features
It's actually fun navigating through this module. The editing functions are a breeze. Roland made it very easy to use. All the built-in songs are REAL audio which makes it really really fun to play along to. Plus the USB input makes it possible to save backup kits and even import .WAV files to save right on the module.
Ease of Use
VERY easy to use. Almost everything is displayed as a picture not just words, which makes it not only easy but fun.
Quality
It's a Roland. They're the best. You definitely get a lot of bang for the buck.
Value
If I could give it an 11 I would have. You get a lot of quality for your dollar with this kit.
Manufacturer Support
I've only had to call them twice and that was because I was too lazy to read the manual. LOL. With the exception of one rude support tech, they are very helpful.
The Wow Factor
With the exception of the TD-20...I think this is the most "attractive" kit in Roland's line-up.
