I wanted to wait 6 months before I wrote a review, so that I could really test this unit out, and I have to tell you that this preamp sounds awesome! I thought that I would be okay with just my Apollo 8....I was wrong! The Neve Shelford Channel completes my home studio setup. I don't have to tweak my signal in my DAW too much....it's just for coloring now. I dial in my settings on the Shelford Channel, and I'm good to go. The compressor section is so transparent, you don't even hear it ( although I can see it via the VU meter). The Red/Blue Silk Texture is heavenly, and the amount of headroom it provides is out of this world! I saved my pennies for two years to get this and it is well worth it! Kudos to zZounds for their outstanding support! Maybe in the future I can get a second unit, to track in stereo!

This preamp is really stunning. The EQ section is crazy big sounding and can turn any sound source into a monster. The compressor is decent. The preamp is truly wonderful at anything. Love the iron. Am thinking of getting another for a stereo

"After 1 year..."

I've had my Shelford Channel for over a year now. While it has been amazing on any source, it's primarily lives on my vocal chain. Combined with an AEA R84 (ribbon mic) I can track vocals that sound freakishly good, as if they are in the room right next to you. The preamp section can be as clean or as colored as I'd want. The EQ remains believable at even at more extreme settings. The compressor lifts the sound without muddying it and the Silk circuit is like nothing else. I can match the mid-forward punch of my Aurora GTQs or the grit of my Phoenix Ascent Two EQ, all the while maintaining more clarity and detail. I plan to purchase another one asap. 4.5 stars for ease of use. My only gripe is that the power switch is on the back.
Sound
The sound is excellent! Not as big and round as the Daking mic pres. More modern sounding compared to the Aurora GTQs, and BAE 1073s. The sound is detailed and flexible.
Features
The preamp, EQ and Silk circuit are the features that stand out to me the most.
Ease of Use
I think every preamp, EQ and compressor has a learning curve, regardless of the user. That said, the SC is pretty intuitive.
Quality
It's built like a tank! I'm pretty sure it will outlast me.
Value
I guess so. It's super expensive, but tons of features in 1U. I'd prefer a dual Shelford with EQ. to go with the separate dual DBC.
Manufacturer Support
Yes. They were excellent to deal with. Very responsive and clear in their communication.
The Wow Factor
It's beautifully made. Super high end!
