These drums have to most superb tone. It is rich, full and deep enough. I EQd the stock heads but have G2s for them when ready because the stock heads sound so good. I so loved the floor tom on the last Premier set I had in the late 70's. This one is the same. The snare needs a new head and snares but should come up to par.

I am a long time Premier drum fanatic and own several Premier British made and one, Premier Genista, Taiwan made kit. I made the decision to purchase this bop kit (China) based on reviews which I've read all over the internet. If you are going to place the Premier name on a drum kit, it has to meet some pretty rigorous standards. The price point is excellent, right on the money. I'm going to give you the pros and the cons. I know that a kit priced this reasonably has to have some weak links. The weakest link is the stock heads that come with the kit. Definitely upgrade the heads and you will find that the birch shells sing. The snare drum with new heads is a fine drum. The 18" bass drum has a nice round tone and a lot of punch. The chrome quality that one would expect from Premier is at about 95%. The rims are a little light weight, but well chromed. The bass drum hoops come raw. No lacquer on a birch hoop? I took the time to spray lacquer over the hoops to keep them from getting dirty. The hardware is a little lighter weight than one might expect, but it looks like it will last a long time. Then wrap is really nice but could have been applied with a little more care. Overall the tone quality of each drum is really good, it's some of the physical traits that are not 100%, but we are looking for a great sounding drum kit, right? This meets that category.

If you're looking in this price range for a drum kit there are certain compromises you have to accept. First off, this kit is made in China so the workmanship can be a little spotty. In fact, I received two kits in a row with shell separation (one bad bass drum and the second a bad floor tom). I have to admit that Zzounds was awesome sending replacement orders immediately. The third kit I received was more or less perfect. Secondly, the components are surprisingly nice such as the die cast lugs and bass drum claws. Typically, you get stamped claws at this price. Also, the hardware is finished pretty well and feel pretty solid. The steel hoops work fine and have held their tuning well. Bass drum comes with unfinished wooden hoops which was again a surprise for such an inexpensive kit. Thirdly, the birch shells sound great! Nice and punchy with a decent tuning range. The bearing edges are leveled but are not as smooth as my Gretsch Renown Maple (also an Asian made kit). Perhaps, a fine sanding and wax could improve them but I did not notice any negative effects. As mentioned, the drums sound great!! Bass drum is deep and the tomes and snare punch nicely. Overall, I would recommend this kit to anyone either learning to play or a pro who needs a practice or beater kit. The main thing I would be mindful of is the QC quality control. There are some really great kits manufactured in China but unfortunately there are some clunkers hidden in the lot. Zzzounds was great about replacing the kits until I found a good set. Also, keep in mind that the wrap could have been applied more carefully. In some places the wrap has some rough looking spots that weren't applied too cleanly. Good luck!!

This is a great kit for the money. I always wanted an 18 inch bass and now I have it. The bass tunes low easily and I tune the rest of the kit for bop. I like the snare as well. Just be careful putting your bass drum hoops on as I feel they were slightly larger then they should be as that was causing some tuning problems until I noticed the hopes were not centered. If you're in the market for a smaller kit I'd go for this. I took standard shipping ( no charge) and received my kit the NEXT DAY !

Couldn't be happier with this purchase. Great sounding kit and a quality kit for the price. I couldn't believe I was paying only $400 for an all birch kit. Changed the heads on the toms and snare it sound almost as good as my Tama Starclassic Perfomer Birch kit.
