"Good Cab for the Money"

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Good looking cabinet for the price. I swapped the speaker with a Celestion G12 that's been sitting on my bench. The Peavey speaker was unmarked with a small magnet weighing only 5.1 pounds. The back panel was very tight and difficult to remove. Don't use a screwdriver to pry it up or you'll damage the particle board.

"Good Cabinet, Bad Speaker"

BE ADVISED: This 1x12 is no longer listed on Peavey's website as a 'Vypyr' cabinet. It's advertised as a 'ValveKing' cabinet, with a 'ValveKing' speaker. (And with a different logo plate). The speaker, forgive me for my bluntness here, is junk. The highs are brittle and the mids are okay but the bottom end is awful. It breaks up in a not-so-good way. It may improve after a "break-in" period but I don't don't think it'll sound even marginally 'good'. It bears no markings except a sticker that says it is a 'green product'.Now the cab is MDF but appears well made. There is an ample length of wire from the jack to the speaker so you can unhook the wires from the stock speaker without much difficulty when installing a new speaker (which is the only reason to buy this cab).I installed a Celestion Greenback and the cab makes an excellent external cab for my Vox AC4C1-12. (The AC4 is a great amp but the smallish cab and stock speaker don't do it any favors.)A previous reviewer said to be careful when removing the back panel.ABSOLUTELY. There is a small double-sided adhesive strip between the edges of the panel and the cab itself that is used to seal the cab. I used a carpentry tool, sorta like a wide flat chisel, to loosen the grip of this adhesive strip. Take your time or you WILL rip out chunks of the back panel. (MDF isn't a very pliable substance.)So... My bottom line is that for the cost of this and the Greenback speaker I got an excellent cab for my AC4, cheaper than most other 1x12's you'll find so I can only recommend this as a "project" cab for upgrading. One minor note is the 'Peavey' logo plate is easily removed leaving an attractive all black cab that you can use with a great number of heads and or amps.

"Gear Snobs move on...otherwise...GOOD CAB!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

These are a working man's tool...as is.Take off the peavey label...install some gold piping and Marshall logo...and this matches perfectly with a Marshall Origin 20 watt head.People dog out the stock speaker...but that's just snobbery about a label. The speaker is perfectly fine...and the people you play for don't know any difference. Save some money and get a decent tool...or waste money fir no reason. Ignore the hype and move on.

"Not a real Blue Marvel speaker"

Overall: 2 out of 5 stars

Bit of false advertising really. Ad says it's a specially voiced Blue Marvel speaker but when I went to open the back, the speaker is a no name of something. Maybe this is Peavey's way of saying its a "specially voiced" Blue Marvel. It's not the greatest of speakers. It works, sounds ok and it's really what you pay for. I was fortunate enough to find a good, used Celestion speaker which I swapped out and the sound is night and day. The cab construction is decent so if you might have an upgraded speaker to swap this cab isn't that bad. The thing that's really a bummer is that Peavey states that's it's one thing but it's really not. The stock speaker is really light. It probably weighs about a 1/3 of what the Celestion weighs. It's just a cheap speaker.
