Tripods are a blessing and a curse. They're much more stable than a round based mic stand but the legs are always in the way. Somebody is always tripping on one of the legs. The GPA 1003 fixes that and it's perfectly designed. The 8 pound base has a large tongue attached and slides under your pedal board. The boom is an insert that sits inside the shaft of the mic stand. No more counter weight that dancers elbows always seem to find when you're singing! My only criticism is that the boom could have been a little longer since I use a large pedal board. To fix this I also got the MSA 9505 mini boom. It's adjustable and the two together are absolutely perfect. If you need the room or play on stages that are tri pod unfriendly this is the stand you need.

Tri-pod base boom stands definitely have their place on stages across the world. One place they don’t belong is in cramped, crowded bars and clubs (especially ones with no stage). The pedal board utility stand is the very best mic stand option for those using pedal boards for live performances. It probably pays to research whether your board will accommodate this stand( I use Pedaltrain Classic Jr). It probably does. Wanna keep your mouth intact for those tiny , cramped gigs? Then buy this!!!
