real nice guitar with a strong balanced sound, and easy to fret chords. sturdy, and very well made. smooth neck, nice finish on the body. I would recommend this to anyone looking to travel, or on a tight budget like me. the longer I own it, the better it feels and sounds. I have owned the big brother martins, of course they sound great, but this is no guitar to sneeze at. try one out YOURSELF before you start believing the online naysayers...

been a martin player / owner for many years and many styles. this guitar sounds full and broadcasts a real fine balanced tone. built solid with a lot of attention to detail. cleartone strings sound great, action is good, intonation is set up well, and is comfortable to play sitting or standing. despite what some internetters say about hpl, play one of these martins locally and judge it yourself, because we all know what other opinions on the internet are like...It is not the loudest guitar, but has a great tone. yes I would buy a replacement if Stephen Stills borrowed it, and never returned it to me.

Musical Background:

40 yrs, semi professional, acoustic and electric

Musical Style:

blues, gospel, rock, country, Cajun, bluegrass

"NICE PLAYING AND SOUNDING DREADNAUGHT"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

I have had several Martins over the years. I live in a dry desert climate and it is rough on expensive guitars. I have another HPL Martin and have had no issues what so ever with it and playing it in the hot sun also. I like the boom of a dreadnaught and miss my D28s. This does not sound like a Martin rosewood and spruce D-28 but it does sound very nice and has the fullness unplugged and plugged in it is twice as nice with the Fishman. I like 1 3/4 inch necks. The quality and build in Martin quality. If you are a solo artist give this a serious look. As always thanks ZZ for the blazing fast service.

Thought I'd add to my previous review. I put Martin SP phosphor bronze bronze lights on it. It makes a huge difference in the boom and overall sound. Also when changing strings make sure the saddle is not tight in the slot. A Little sanding with an emery board may be needed. If its too tight it may not rest on the sound element fully. This is a really nice guitar for the money. Take it to the desert or the beach.

Ok I've had this guitar awhile. The Sonitone pickup system works in a pinch but I hate to say it but it's "junk". I had a Fishman inexpensive sound hole pickup sitting around and tried it. Its like night and day. Well balanced and full tone. I removed the Sonitone stuff completely. You will have to shim up the saddle if you take out the braided under saddle transducer. I kept the jack cover is all. Put any sound hole pickup you favor. I may put a K & K in it at some time. Now this guitar is quite gig worthy.
