"Mapex Pro M Custom Owner's thoughts.."

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I've had it for four years, and have no real thoughts to get a new kit; although obviously we all think, "if I had the money...!" Bare in mind it is very large and takes up a lot of room, more than I expected to begin with, but managable. Purchased a double bass drum pedal for it (gibraltar) just for fun, and a three way mapex cymbal stand, but that depends on what/how many cymbals you have.
Sound
The sound is superb, its set up in my medium size room, fills the room, great echo and sound out of all the drums, real treat to play. I play mostly rock and metal, but with occasional jazz, and I find this kit very versitile to all these styles, although I have added a double bass drum pedal, though I can't complain for not getting one with it. Played weekly in a band situation (2guitars, bass, vox) stands out well against all, and sounds great in gig venues. Very good value for money, £850 for the whole kit, including hardware, it was the first kit i'd fully set up on my own, and it wasn't too hard, just a little difficult to find the room and fit through doors with it! I had to invest in drum pads, due to angry neighbours, and this did cost be about £70 for every drum and cymbal mutes, although I had to buy a few extra, as I have more than the 'average' number of cymbals. I haven't needed to replace the skins (bar snare and bass drum - kicked a hole in it) and they stay in tune pretty well. Brilliant kit, I won't be looking to replace, maybe getting a second SJC for university as its smaller, or electric, but not due to any fault of this kit.
Features
All hardware (boom + tom, cymbal arm + tom, hi-hat and pedal) was inculded, which is very useful, although I purchased another cymbal stand afterwards. A double bass drum pedal finishes the kit off nicely, although obviously it depends on the style one plays. Good value for money, and hardware is fairly standard, so can be used with another kit if this mapex is replaced.
Ease of Use
Very easy set up, easy to tune and get a great sound out of. The bass drum will obviously be very boomy, but doesn't over power, the size of the drums are in a good ratio to one another. Very enjoyable and easy to play, only fault is the double tom stand is a little wobberly if playing something tom heavy; can't complain for package hardware though.
Quality
Very well made, heads aren't the best, but to be expected. Travels well if you've got the car size for it, I generally don't take the whole kit.
Value
Very good value, I know its good very good re-sell value aswell, which is useful if that becomes a must.
Manufacturer Support
Well the fact that I haven't needed to contact is a good thing.. Can't rate the service as its N/A sadly.
The Wow Factor
Beautiful colour, really eye catching and makes a statement (need the drumming to back it up though!) I generally prefer longer lugs, but that's completly personal taste, other than that I can't fault the kit!

"Great Kit. Read On..."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I think I will keep this drum kit untill it breaks or becomes unusable for any other reason. I may get a electronic drum kit, but for different reasons, not that I would replace this kit. I wish it came with drum pads, as these are almost impossible to find for a reasonable price [under 50 pounds] for the whole kit.
Sound
Its just great, all the drums sound really full, and loud, but they echo in a small corner where i have to set mine up due to lack of space. I play rock and metal, sao it suits my playing really well. What else can i say, I love these drums, they even make my awful old cymbals sounds good!
Features
It came with all the hardware. But the boxe's just huge!! But mine came all packed and wrapped each drum and peice of hardware in its own box. I wish it had come with two bass drums, or a double bass pedal, but I can always buy thoese bits
Ease of Use
I was told it was going to come with at instruction mannual.. It didn't. Luckerly I have set up kits before, except i found the drum heads a bit hard to attach, but maybe that's because i'm just weak?
Quality
The quality is great. I bash my drums to hell, my last kit almost fell apart. But this one can take it. My only problem is the snare drum. I don't like the plastic pull bits [sorry, completly forgotten what they're called] that tighten and loosen the snare's. They always come loose and drive me insane! Great kit, I just might have to buy a new snare.
Value
its a great kit, worth the money, but i got a discount on mine, as it was a sale, but i would pay any money, less than a grand for this kit [hardware inc. obv.]
Manufacturer Support
I havn't had to do anything or ring up Mapex, so I guess thats a good thing. But I can't rate there support...
The Wow Factor
I love the colour. The set up is perfect, though I would prefer another bass drum, to add to the great effect this kit has. But I can't fault its look's. It makes a name for itself really.
