"Great Pedal, Excellent Value"

I bought this pedal because I was gigging like crazy doing all one nighters in a country / red dirt / classic rock band in Oklahoma. I was running my old Camco by TAMA Double bass pedal and single bass from the 80s and I was concerned they might go down during one of the many weekends we would do two 4 set gigs on a Saturday. So I was looking for something that would be durable and not run $1000 plus. I was also playing a Mapex armory 6 piece kit for all these gigs. The pedal is very well built, solid and the build quality I felt was above the price point. It’s easy to adjust, has 2 sets of weights and a tuning key that mounts to the plate of the main pedal. The pedal also came with a nice light weight carrying bag, which if anything was the only part that wasn’t great. It is still a nice bag, but it wouldn’t live long with heavy gigging. The plates are nice and solid, pedal mounts easily and it was easy to fit it to firmly grip the rim, the bar from the Slave pedal was solid and not flimsy. The appearance is sharp. The beaters are dual sided and felt good. Spring adjustment was easy and no problems there. The pedals glided real smooth. I only had trouble at first with the beater rebounding on my head. Adjustments fixed that. This pedal was pretty fast, but if you do serious heavy double bass work and blasts on your kick, it will do the job, but you would want to pay more for a pedal that’s better suited for it. For me, I play a lot of country, 80s metal, classic rock and funk. So I don’t need a pedal to blast beat my kick. The value in my opinion is excellent. To get a pedal that felt very solid, wasn’t junk, very smooth and quick was great, but to get one this nice at under $400 was even better! Are there better pedals out there? Yes, But you’d be hard pressed to find one this nice, this smooth, this quick, well built and medium heavy duty at this price point. As I got used to the pedal and got it dialed in, i determined it was an excellent decision and a great investment. When I received the pedal I only had time to get the pedal from my porch, unpack it and then made sure I had everything put together in the carrying bag properly and I was off to a gig. I adjusted it at the gig best I could. But it was still not where I wanted. After a couple of weeks of tinkering and adjusting and playing, I had it dialed in. Would I purchase it again? Yes I would, without hesitation. I’ve played many different pedals in my 40 year career and this one is up there with some of the best. If you decide on it, you won’t regret it. It’s a great value and the peace of mind I had knowing it would take the beating I was putting on my gear was well worth the price and more. Mapex makes some great gear at affordable prices. Give it a test drive, you won’t be disappointed.
