"Kurzweil Kwality"
Acoustic instruments sounds are likely to be needed for a long time to come and this unit satisfies that requirement.
Sound
It does all the acoustic stuff very well. Use it with synths of your choice. Good live sound.
Features
Slightly odd architecture using 4 MIDI channel Setups. But all 16 channels always available for multitrack sequencer work.
Quality
External power supply. Pretty well built.
Value
If it's a choice between quality and quantity, then the Kurzweil sound gives you tops in quality. The search ends here.
Manufacturer Support
Not too good at present, but Kurzweil are going though hard times so it should improve when they get themselves sorted out.

"Good product, but not for everyone"

PCR1, KDFX, and KB3 make this product usable. It will also have a place in my studio.
Sound
Don't expect this to compete with the likes of the Motif Rack, although it is closely priced. This is a complementary module, that can fill holes left by other manufacturers. The KB3 has no equal in any other comparable product. The orch rom is great, but even the built-in strings are very good. The piano is very good, but certainly not the only piano sound you would want. You will also want the S700 sampled into the Yamaha Motif ES and S90. The drums in the PC2R are not every useful, and some sets aren't even mapped to C=bass, D=snare, F3=hi hat, etc.
Features
This should really have a selectable sample rate. It will only output 48kHz via RCA. If you want AES/EBU, you will probably need a Hosa AER-005 cable.
Quality
Overall, built fine. However, the main selection knob clicks to hard and loud between values. Much nicer in DMPRO.
Value
This WILL NOT be your main module. As stated previously, it fills in the gaps. As such, it should be priced lower. For a couple of extra bucks, you can get a Motif Rack, which is leaps and bounds ahead of this device. You would have to get the DPCX-1 to get 128-note polyphony (about $350, and already in Motif), but even then, Motif's 85MB ROM is much larger (Motif ES is 175MB).
Manufacturer Support
Had questions about an unreleased ROM option (PCR2 - Classic Keys) and Kurzweil was very informative, and even pointed me to some new patches to upload via sysex.
The Wow Factor
Again, just need it for certain sounds; I like a huge variety of equipment to satisfy the mood of the project.
