So, I wanted a floyd equipped lefty and didnt want to break the bank. Striker fit the bill - on paper. Got the guitar, tremolo bar and allen key were missing. Reach out to Cust. Svce and after 15 minutes of pain, was told I'd receive replacement parts directly from Gibson. After 3 weeks,I did but the tremolo bar is for a RIGHT-handed floyd. Went out and bought my own. On to the guitar - Action was 1/8" at the nut and 5/16 at the 12th fret. Unplayable. Required a neck shim and the locking nut shaved down. The neck pocket looked like it had been chopped with a chisel. After much effort, swearing, a lot of beer and a few days, I was able to fix all the issues. Very low action and no buzzing. Pickups: the bridge humbucker is actually very respectable and sounds really nice, albeit a bit noisy. The mid and bridge single coils are outright rubbish. Ended up replacing all three with better quality pups. New strings, some fret polish and 3000 grit paper for back of neck, the guitar is actually very nice, neck is comfortable, plays great and surprisingly the floyd rose special stays in tune after heavy use. Bottom line: if you buy, be ready to do some serious work to get it to play right.
Sound
The stock sound of this guitar is mediocre. Bridge humbucker is a bit noisy but powerful, crunchy and smooth. Mid and neck single coils are very noisy and weak. An upgrade of all three would be recommended.
Features
this is not about most or least useful feature but rather poor or good quality. The tuning keys do the job well, the all maple neck is very comfortable to play and of decent quality, truss rod responds well, nice jumbo frets. THe "mahogany" body lends a bit of thickness to the tone and contrasts well with the maple neck. Paint is excellent, floyd rose special is not a professional's choice but the price point of this guitar wouldn't allow anything better. Yet, it works if not abused and setup properly. Strings were rusty. volume, tone and switch are poor quality. Workmanship is not the best. Assembly is poor. Factory setup does not exist.
Ease of Use
After many upgrades, the guitar sounds and plays great. It is very comfortable to play after a good setup and required mantenance.
Quality
The guitar is a budget instrument, not much attention is paid to some details. Parts are poor quality, they will not last under heavy use. Upgrades are recommended.
Value
I bought this guitar because it was not expensive, I had a feeling prior to purchase that the product would require some upgrades and luthier work. The price point is slightly high for someone who will require paid service to address the issues, as opposed to a DIYer.
Manufacturer Support
I've dealt with the company indirectly for an issue I had (missing parts). They sent incorrect parts after 3 weeks.
The Wow Factor
The guitar has great appeal, reminiscent of the 80s superstrats, even though it does fall short quality-wise. However, it has great potential to be turned into a great playing instrument. The money you spend AFTER the purchase, in order to get it to be the way it should be, is a big factor. Bringing it to a tech will cost $$$. Doing the work yourself, if you are capable, will be much lass paiful in term of cost.
