I’ve always felt like my Deluxe Reverb was missing a little “umph”when I hit it with a fuzz face. I can happily say that is no longer the case with a Charlie Brown in the signal path. Feels like there is tone for days now, as notes bloom and sag with the Fuzz Face running into the Charlie Brown. And then, the tone when I run just the CB V4 and a wah are unbelievable. If you love 60’s/70’s blues rock, this thing is the ticket.

I wanted to update my review as I wasn't necessarily feeling this pedal when I first bought it and tried it out, so I left the "Meh" review above. I put it away for a few weeks and then dug it out this past weekend and began noodling some more. I can officially say, this pedal is definitely going to be an integral part of "my sound" going forward. With my amp almost on the edge of breakup, my EQ in the loop in the classic "V" pattern, I have this as my second gain stage, behind a Keeley Blues Driver. That makes for a really nice, in between sound. You're getting a little bit of gain, but not pushing things too much. Great for blues or rhythm playing in a Skynyrd song, etc. You get the idea. When it's time to push it, kicking the BD on in front of this pedal creates a great southern/classic rock gain stage that's just killer. Notes are clean and not muddy or lost in gain at all. It's almost like the CB V4 reacts like an amp when kicked by the BD. It also paired well as a base gain stage when stacking with higher gain pedals like the SLO and the Friedman, though both of those combinations definitely needed some gate as they were a little too noisy for my liking. If you play any 60's-80's rock or blues or you simply strive for a sound from that era, this pedal can get you there, though not always by itself. It needs to be stacked to really get into some higher gain stuff, but it is soooooo worth it if you try. I'm glad I didn't return this or sell it as had crossed my mind early on.

I don't know, maybe it's just me. I'm rather underwhelmed by it. It's just......meh. I didn't expect it to be a face-melter or anything, but I expected a little more than was delivered. In front of an all tube lunchbox head, it's a more expensive blues driver. Not better, not more "Marshally" or anything, just OK, the same as my BD. I'll put it on the shelf and maybe come back to it later on. But I'd save my money if I had it to do over again.
