Jackson X Series Soloist SLA6 DX Baritone Electric Guitar
Let's get chuggin'! Between the baritone scale length and the active EMG 81/85 humbucker set, this Soloist was born to riff.

I received this guitar today as a birthday gift for myself. It's very fun to play. It chugs. Being a 26.5 scale baritone and using somewhat the same woods, it compares to an Ibanez RGD Iron Label model in my opinion, though it's less heavier and comes with active pickups. You can never go wrong with EMG 81-85's. It's a super comfortable guitar to play. I only have a few complaints about it: The die-cast tuners feel gritty and are hard to turn when tuning. The truss rod cover was very loose and looks curved/warped instead of being straight. The 2nd string has fret buzz on an open note. The rest of the strings are fine. Overall, it's a great guitar. Quality control needs improvement..
Sound
As mentioned above, it compares to a Ibanez RGD Iron Label with it being 26.5 scale and comfortable.

The first one I received had fingerprints in the finish, and maybe the pickups were wired wrong, because there was no output when I plugged it in. zZounds customer service kicked butt in resolving the issue, by way of getting me a replacement fast. However, I should've just taken a refund or put it towards something better.I've had this guitar for ~6 months now, and it should absolutely not be priced anywhere near what it is. I bought it because I had never owned a Jackson and I thought it would be a great baritone. And it would've been 'just okay', had the price been cut in half. The finish is so poor that it chipped and flaked a piece off the headstock when I tightened a loose nut on one of tuning pegs. A nut that should've been tight from factory. That was literally the first day of receiving the replacement guitar. The neck is thin and feels very nice. But the truss rod must be absolute junk, because even so much as placing your hand on the neck to play anything causes it to go out of tune, as if you were pushing on the neck with some force. I've eaten al dente pasta that was stiffer than this wet noodle of a neck. One of the bridge pickup's mounting screws was not screwed in far enough, causing the pickup to wobble in the cavity. When I went to tighten it up, I realized the head of the screw was stripped by the factory. They apparently just gave up on screwing it all the way in - "Close enough". When I tried to replace it, the head just crumbled even more, so I had to drill it out. Which was a huge pain. I ended up just replacing all the mounting screws on both pickups just for peace of mind. I wasn't expecting "custom shop quality", but sheesh.. I've owned several guitars in this price range that were flawless, compared to this pretty turd. It is definitely deterring me from ever buying another Jackson.tl:drZzounds customer service rules. But skip this guitar. It's not at all worth it.

"Not a Great Baritone Option"

I returned this guitar due to blemishes, possibly from shipping, that didn’t sit well with me for the price (not a zZounds problem). However, there are several critiques that I can add to assist others who may be interested in this Jackson. It’s very lightweight for a baritone, the factory string gauge is very light compared to others, and I couldn’t get it properly intonated. I found a Reddit post explaining the same experience, and that it’s an admitted design flaw. I could not corroborate that information, but it was my experience. Also, the tuners are complete trash. You will have to replace these if you want your guitar to hold tuning. Even turning them is unpleasant due to the grinding feel. Those things aside, the guitar is beautifully made, the frets appeared level and were not sharp. All electronics functioned properly and the EMG 81 sounded exactly like an EMG 81. Although this is a relatively affordable option, I’d check out the Ibanez equivalent before spending the money on the Jackson.

Overall good guitar, but the strings it came with were super light and along with the not so great factory set up it had trouble staying in tune. Luckily, the local luthier worked his magic and fixed itAlso, the string ferrals fell out during the first string change. Which the luthier also fixed.
