Jackson Pro Dinky DKA7M Electric Guitar, 7-String

A compound-radius fretboard and archtop body on Jackson's DKA7M 7-string ensure playing comfort, and its momentary kill-switch allows unique stutter effects.

I've been researching 7 strings under $1,000 for over a year now and had about 4 really great choices that I had to widdle down to just 1. All of the choices were 26.5 scale, had a maple fretboard, and that's about where the similarities ended. One of the main reasons I fell in love with this guitar is the bridge. Its decent quality (not hipshot but it will definitely get the job done) and coming from a finicky 6 string floyd, I'm loving being able to easily adjust action, intonation, and tuning whenever I want without a massive headache. I took a gamble on the neck seeing as I have never played a Jackson 7 neck before and this thing feels more comfortable to my big hands than any other guutar I've ever played. It doesnt flatten out in the back like a wizard neck, but it isnt a baseball bat either. It has the perfect amount of curvature in every spot you want/dont want. Pictures do not do this guitar justice! I catch myself looking at it over and over again and still cant believe how great this thing looks. Also, the input Jack is like a strat plate but on the side of the body, very nice and thoughtful feature. The Duncan full shreds are decent. The bridge is actually really tight and aggressive when I want it to be, but can mellow and be full and warm sounding, overall very easy to manipulate into the tone I'm looking for. The neck pickup however feels weak and loose. The first thing I did to this guitar was change the strings. It came with a set of 9's that made the bottom B string sound terrible. Changed it out for 10's and problem solved. The planet waves tuners are amazing. They're super high ratio, locking and self cutting tuners. I've never changed strings this quick and efficient before. I'm very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this 7 to anyone looking for a great 7 that wont need a ton of work out of the box to sound great!

So I've owned this guutar for 9 months so far, and I've definitely spent quite a bit of time on this guitar now. While I still love it there are a few things I'd like to address on this beast. First is the nut. On my g and b string nut slot I think its cut too narrow for my strings (using 11-62), so the tuning kinda jumps around a bit until you get it dialed in then it's great for a while. Plus the edges on it are sharp, it actually cut my finger one time. Second is the killswitch. Not sure if I have some dust in mine or what but now it seems to short out on occasion, cutting my signal entirely. I planned on replacing this anyways with a higher quality switch as it felt kinda cheap in the first place, but this issue has kinda sped up my timeline on upgrading this part. Other than those 2 issues this guitar is amazing, as stated in my previous review. I definitely recommend this guitar to anyone wanting to get into a serious 7 string for less than a grand. Also, it's a guitar that I feel looks better with signs of wear, which makes me want to use it even more! All in all, great job Jackson, and for a couple more bucks thrown into this thing, you have a guitar definitely worth more than what you'll have paid for it.
