Ibanez knows how to make great guitars. The Talman is their next great model. Cool retro offset body with great mix of traditional and modern features. The guitar takes its cues from T style guitars. The pickups are single coil and sound great: the neck is warm and the bridge is spanky. Both sound awesome overdriven. Better still, both are silent. I haven't looked under the hood yet, but I suspect that there's a dummy coil to eliminate 60 cycle hum. The neck is wonderful--incredibly well finished. Ibanez actually "binds" the rosewood fingerboard with additional rosewood to hide the fret tangs. This makes the neck very comfortable to play. The neck profile is fatter than Big F's C profile, which I love, but it's not baseball, 50's LP fat. I do prefer a fatter neck. The satin finish on the neck adds to the playability. The stain is a sandy brown color, which is much closer to the color of vintage necks than the bright yellow that some manufacturers use. My guitar is 3-tone sunburst--very well done. There are no defects in the finish and while 3TSB isn't my fave finish, for the price, I won't complain. The body includes a tummy cut and contoured heel joint--more comfort and playing ease. If you're looking for a great-value T style guitar with a unique body shape, definitely consider a Talman.
