I started with a Squier VM Jazz Bass, but it was hurting my fretting hand some. I did a number of adjustments to improve it, but still had some difficulties. So, after reading about Ibanez basses and their thin necks, I gave this a try. I was NOT dissapointed! I've only been playing it for an hour, but I'm very impressed! It's very comfortable, and plays so well! Right out of the box, it only needed to be tuned up. The action is nice and low, the neck looks like the correct relief, it needs a small intonation adjustment, but bending the strings slightly brings the intonation in, so I'll wait a few days for the strings to stretch out and check that again. The nut even seems to be correct, it doesn't look like it needs any files touching it. The sound is great, too. I don't like squeeky strings much, but it sounds so good otherwise, I'm never putting flatwounds on this! Maybe get a set of Elixir Nanoweb strings, I hear the coating reduces the squeeks. But I'm definitely sticking with round wound strings. I like the "pickup selector" knob, whatever they call that (pardon my terminology, I'm new to Ibanez equipment). I can get whatever mix I want for one or both pickups without changing the volume. A nice touch! The EQ is nice, too. I need to play with that more, but it gives me some nice sounds. The body of this bass is a bit smaller than the Squier VM Jazz, and lighter. That'll be easier on my back and shoulders when playing standing up. I'm getting old, can't take as much abuse as in the old days. For the price, I would say this is an exellent bass. In fact, I don't see why I need to pay more for a better Ibanez bass, but if the better ones are better than this, it must be heaven!
