As the title says, this is the first high-end guitar I have owned, although I've jammed on a few Gibson LPs, Fender Strats, high-end Jacksons, etc, and I can confidently say that this guitar meets or exceeds the craftsmanship of those axes. The body is very light while still providing excellent tone, the fretwork is the best I have seen, and the tuning stability is very good, although may benefit from some tweaks (the 752 may have been a better call in this respect, although the machine heads are still top-knotch). The stock DiMarzio PAF pickups produce exceptional clean tones, and while being lower output, don't fare too poorly distorted, although I look to upgrade in the future. They low end is covered rarely well, which is important for a seven, though those who play heavier music will want more output. To summarize, I'm not an expert by any means, but I've tinkered with enough guitars to say this guitar is extremely competent in the price range, and the craftsmanship of the Prestige line is unparalleled.

This guitar is worth every penny. Many prestige Ibanez's go for signifigantly more than these, and most have the same of somtimes even less features. Mine arrived securely packaged and cased. It was even fully in tune and ready to play. I guess I'll start from the top and work my way down. The tuners are rock solid. Not only are they geared well, but they are very smooth and responsive. The locks make tuning stablity exceptionally high. The neck is fast, very fast, but not uncomfortable with chording as many wizard necks are. The tung oil finish (or lack there of) makes it smooth and prevents sticking even with sweaty hands. The body is light, lighter than most basswood bodies i've played, but still is very resonant. Acoustically the guitar sounds quite pleasant. The finish I got was Subterranean Purple, which is mostly black unless in direct lighting. The purple is nice to look at when you can see it though. Its equipped with a pair of Dimarzio PAF-7s. I was a bit nervous about these when i ordered it as these are very low output pickups and i play on the heavier end of the musical spectrum, but these things were quite surprising. They quickly became my new favorite for all music. The bridge is well balanced and has a relatively flat EQ. A very slight dip in the midrange, but nothing drastic. Note definition is stellar on every string and single notes and complex chords will both sit well in a mix even with high gain. The neck is EQ'd fairly similar to the bridge, but has more midrange pressence and has that buttery feel. Very expressing when playing lead and gives cleans a nice amount of warmth. Both pickups respond to the volume and tone pots nicely. Even under high gain settings, rolling off the volume can clean up your tone. The 5-way switch offers some unique tonal options and is one of my favorite parts of the package. You have your traditional Bridge/ Bridge+Neck/ Neck in positions 1,3 and 5 with the inner coils of both on position 2 and the neck in parallel. The brigde is another strong point. I prefer fixed bridges, and not many prestige 7's offer them. I played on the older Gibraltars and wasn't very impressed, but these new ones are comfortable to play on. All in all, if you're looking for a higher end 7 string, or just wanna have a Prestige Ibanez withour breaking the bank, this is it.
