Like a swiss army knife, this thing is tiny but versatile with tones of face-plate options and different uses. I have API preamps and they're great!.. But they just don't get dirty enough, I've also tried the Warm73 and while it was stellar on vocals- I did encounter issues with excessive muddiness and harshness- causing me to eventually sell it. However, I still needed the Neve sound for less than Neve and BAE prices, and after extensive online research (even the cork sniffers on Gearspace like this thing), I decided to pull the trigger on the GAP. So far I'm really happy with it. The pictures don't do it justice, it looks really sleek in person. It does the dirty 1073 distortion, the output knob adds some warmth and fatness, it has slightly more thickness/buttery-ness than the API, and it does it all without those horrible muddy/harsh frequencies I was spending hours fighting with the Warm Audio unit. Was this unit pulled out of the Sound City studios 8028 desk that recorded Nevermind? No.. But it checks off all the Neve boxes that I was needing in my studio and it does them well enough at a great price point.
