I have a good number of acoustic guitars. I have a solid Spruce/Mahogany Tacoma DM9 from 2000 and a bunch of old Harmonys laying around. Years ago I played an Alvarez Yairi with rosewood back/sides and fell in love with it's sound. Alas, it was not mine. I found the sound to be sweeter and more complex than the rich and well projecting Tacoma. I've wanted one since. About a year ago I acquired a 12 string Alvarez jumbo acoustic with solid spruce/rosewood and love it. However, I needed a 6 string with electric capability with that combination of tonewoods. Add in the concern that CITES was going to starting making rosewood much more expensive to obtain, and I thought it was a good time to buy. In my mind, the Tacoma covers jam sessions with other guitar players because of it's volume and projection, the 12 string is just gorgeous in every way and I use it for anything, but I needed a good 6 string for solo performances (open mics, etc...) that could plug in. The Harmonys go camping. ;-)Anyways, the Alverez 12 string was made in China. The quality of the guitar is second to none. It made me a believer in China built guitars. So I confidently bought this beautiful creation called the Guild F150CE. My example was sold by zZounds as a blem for a small discount. I have had several of my friends look for the blemish and nobody can find it. It's a stunner...absolutely flawless. The tone is as complex and sweet as I expected to be, albeit with some stiffness you would expect from a new guitar. It will open up as it ages. It doesn't not project as well as the Tacoma but it also lacks the Tacoma's thrashiness. The guitar sustains nicely and I was not able to find any dead spots on the fretboard. Fretwork is excellent with no fret sprout. The tuners are generic but hold tune fine and seem to be of a decent ratio. The guitar came with a very light hardshell case that looks like a gig bag when you first see it. I also looked at a similarly priced and equipped Yamaha but in the end I always liked Guild guitars and I think it will stand out amongst the Taylors and Martins that EVERYONE else around here plays. If there was an American made guitar with these specifications and similar quality at this price point I would have at least checked it out.

Musical Background:

I have been playing guitar for 35+ years. I play mostly electric. I have a band that gigs and try to attend open mics.

I couldn't be happier with this guitar. I looked at Taylor and Martin guitars before choosing this one. Taylors in this price range are made of plywood. The Martin I was looking at was solid wood except for the fingerboard which is made of richlite. Richlite is a paper based composite material used for making counter tops. Perrhaps they play and sound fine, but I didn't like the idea of it. So I bought this Guild. And I am so glad I did.
Sound
The sound is beautiful. It's full and even. It's loud, It sound great picking or strumming.
Features
I like the volume and tone control being inside the sound hole. I don't really care for velcro battery thing. Mine came loose during shipping. You have to loosen the stringss to reattach it or to change the battery. But that's a minor complaint.
Quality
It seems to be very well made.
Value
For me, so in my opinion and for what I wanted, this is the best guitar that can be had in this price range
Manufacturer Support
I haven't had to deal with the manufacturer.
The Wow Factor
I'm not exaggerating. Everybody that has heard this guitar has said wow or something like that.

I've been playing for 40 years. I also play the mandolin, banjo, dulcimer, and dobro

I bought this Guild, having owned Taylors, Gibson, larivee, etc. great playing guitar right out of the box. I had a Taylor for about the same price for live performance and sold it after comparing both guitars on a PA system. I play this guitar live on a JBL eon stick system PA, and I have had more comments on how smooth this guitar sounds live than any I have owned in 25 years of playing. If you are looking at the $1000 range of a guitar, this Guild should be on the list.

I was raised on John Denver, and John was a Guild man in his prime. I had always wanted to own a Guild guitar, and this instrument gave me the perfect opportunity. It is very playable (right out of the box) and has a wonderful, rich tone with nice bass (that's always the make or break factor with a guitar for me). I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone looking for good sound at a good price. I am already planning on purchasing a 12-string version (F-1512E)!
