Guild D-140 Acoustic Guitar (with Case)

Sitka spruce and African mahogany give the D-140 full-bodied, robust dreadnought tone, while its vintage logo and neck shaping are evocative of '60s designs.

From the moment I first strummed this guitar I was in love! This guitar has beautiful highs, nice mid-range and very good lows, not to mention the all-day-long sustain. As far as play-ability; all I did was change the strings, tune her up and was plying like Al Di Meola,,, OK that last part was a lie but I was amazed at how easy this guitar is to play. The wood and the finish were flawless, really, really beautiful!Amazing guitar for the price!!!

"Best acoustic for under $1000 IMO"

This guitar is really nice and different to look at with the red cherry burst finish. I think that entices you even more to pick it up to play it. Price wise, on the zZounds website, the next Guild model down from this one is an F250CE. A jumbo that’s $100 less, bound neck, electric and cutaway. In a perfect world this would have a bound neck. That said, after playing them both the D-140 is by far a much better playing, better looking, better tone and just all around better vibe in my opinion. After an extensive acoustic guitar hunt, I couldn’t find a new acoustic guitar I liked more than this one for under a $1000 (with case). And for $130 a month for 6 months, no credit check. This was a wrap. Just paid it off a couple weeks ago and I seem to like it even more now that I don’t owe any more on it. It’s a great guitar and I doubt they keep making them with the cherry burst finish.
Sound
Sounds great. I’d recommend installing a quality pickup if you go that route. A low budget pickup will not help the guitar. Spend a little more and get a quality pickup in lieu of something cheap just so you can plug it in. Or just mic it up.
Features
Ascetically the guitar just looks killer! It has the high standard appointments of the American made guitars with an Indian rosewood fretboard, Sitka spruce top, African mahogany back and sides, mother of pearl rosette inlays, bone nut and saddle, open back nickel tuners and hardware (not chrome) and a nice feeling neck shape. It’s got an awesome vibe. Tone wise
Ease of Use
This instrument is perfect for anyone. Beginner to highly skilled. For a beginner since you probably suck and will for a while, this guitar will keep your interest and you’ll want to pick it up and play it because it just looks cool. And for the price you can’t beat it. I’ll take this $800 Guild over and $809 Martin or Taylor that I’ve played. And if you’re a skilled player, you might want more bells and whistles like electronic, bound neck, ect. I think you’d have a rough time complaining about the feel and the sound of this guitar.
Quality
I think the only difference between this Guild guitar and an American made Guild guitar is, an American didn’t build it someone from China did, I’m assuming. This is a quality instrument that will last someone a lifetime.
Value
Yes. Easily the best acoustic in this price range.
Manufacturer Support
First time I’ve ever bought or looked into the guild brand or bought from zZounds. Both were hassle free, easy to deal with, flexible with moving payment dates if needed. And ended up with a quality instrument that I truely love to play and look at. That’s why I’m taking the time answer all the questions and reviews.
The Wow Factor
Like I said, it sounds and plays awesome. Even if the guitar had a terrible feel and sound, that wouldn’t take away from the looks of the guitar.

I am new to playing and I have had Alvarez guitars and a Orangewood guitar. This guitar is unbelievably good. An all solid guild that sounds like a guitar worth at least a few thousand bucks. Huge boom in the low end and glassy highs. I can’t say enough good things about this purchase. The cherry burst finish is so pleasing and eye catching it’s an absolutely beautiful piece of work for the money.

I just received this very guitar today, I got the D-240e about 2 weeks ago and thought that was amazing but this guitar is unbelievable. I got a Taylor 114ce a year ago and this guitar being cheaper in price is far superior in sound, feel and playability. The sustain is incredible and the notes ring clearly and the separation is beautiful. This guitar is not a USA made Guild but the quality and build quality is superb. The case it comes with is like a hard-shell but has straps like a backpack. It has crushed green velvety material inside. I couldn't be happier with a guitar. If this guitar is this great, I can only imagine how good a D-55 would be. My guess is that it is better but not by much. This guitar is amazing for the price, you really can't get a better guitar for the price hands down. You almost surely won't find an American made one for the price much less a build quality this amazing.

Very impressed with this guitar. Right out of the box it was ready to go. The bass was woody, and the trebles had a warm shimmer. The tonal response of this guitar was tight and focused low to high. I installed an LR Baggs M80 in mine, and it's a powerhouse performer for the stage. Very responsive to touch. An articulate guitar that will inspire and empower you. I've been searching for this tone for awhile. Guild does it for me!

"Guild D-140"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

Purchased my first acoustic in 45 years. A Guild D-140. Couldn't be happier!! It looks absolutely stunning with its Sitka spruce sunburst top and mahogony back and sides. Both features also make for a fantastic sounding acoustic 6-string. The sound is full and rich, and the playability is excellent! No doubt the best purchase I've made in years. A good friend of mine bought a Guild in 1974, and I also said that, if and when I buy another acoustic, it will be a Guild. I'm glad I held out for this baby!!

This guitar is a light weight, playable acoustic that sounds as good as it looks. All solid tonewoods ensure top sound quality. I can easily recommend this guitar without reservation.

"Very disappointed "

This guitar was my first puchase from zZounds, and I couldn't be more disappointed. When it arrived at the tail end of the delivery window, I opened the factory box. The guitar had not been inspected, as it had sharp frets that extended past the edge of the fretboard. The guitar had not had a factory set up, either. What's worse is that zZounds had not inspected the guitar, either. If they had, this would probably be a very different review, as the guitar was in otherwise good shape. I expect more for an $800 instrument.
