I've never been an SG guy. Due to the beautiful walnut finish, this was an impulse purchase and I couldn't be happier. It does what a good Gibson electric solid body guitar should do. Sure, it'll scream when played through a high gain amp but it excels when played clean. No complaints at all. Fit and finish is great and it plays and sounds great. Neck dive, well ya, a little but a suede guitar strap fixes that. No worries. Anyway, I'm a convert, an SG guy. Check one out. It's a killer guitar for about a grand less than a LP Standard. Major bang for your buck. Love it

I received my shipment a day earlier than expected, which was nice’ when I first saw the box I thought there’s no way in hell that guitar is not beat the eff! The box was beat up! To my surprise, the plastic inflatable protective packing used by Zzounds works wonders! …and the soft case that Gibson makes I like better than the Gibson hard case, which is nice also. I unzipped the case, and there she was, beautiful, perfect, no smudges, no scratches or dings, perfect build quality! I was afraid to play it and be upset by something possibly wrong so I just let it sit there for about 8 hours haunting me, finally I said I’d put new strings on and try it but again surprised here, the strings on it weren’t terrible and the action is so low, no way this is gonna play without buzz but not a single fret noise and once tuned and stable, it holds tune and I’m SHREDDING this B!tch! It plays so much better than the 3k dollar Gibson 60’s LP I just bought 3 months ago. Hell, it plays better than the vintage SG I’ve been playing live for 25+ years! Sorry for writing such a book, but if you’re having any doubts or reservations about buying, this guitar is hands down perfection’ at least, the one that sits in my lap as I write this. I know all guitars are little individuals with their own unique things and trying 10 guitars will all play/sound different so there’s that. I feel like I finally got a WIN with this guitar! Thanks zZounds!!
Sound
The sound is very accurate, I’ve heard that used before by others and never thought I’ve had very accurate guitars before but now, with a good amount of distortion I can still here each string and the interaction of the pick hitting the strings. I have Pearly Gates on my Gibson LP and I think these 490s sound better! The action and setup of the instrument is perfect, and couldn’t be done if the guitar wasn’t built so well. As a result, it’s really fast playing, pull-offs and double taps, and triplets are so fast it’s fun!!
Features
The guitar is built really well! The edges are clean and even. The binding matches the edges along the neck nice and straight, no low or proud spots. The frets are really well done, this guitar feels professionally setup as if from my local luthier shop that is the best in Kansas City. I don’t think they could make it better. The tuners are Grover which I use on all my guitars, I normally 1st thing switch out with locking Grover’s but may stick with these as they are nice and tight and responsive to the turn, making subtle adjustments nice and accurate.
Ease of Use
Like peanut butter and jelly! This guitar works SO well, too well, with my head (EVH 5150III), my amps (Fender Bassbreaker 30watt & Marshall DSL 20watt), my spark mini it sound good in everything and at all levels!
Quality
Made really well, haven’t found a bad spot yet and I’m looking like a hawk! The guitar really is better quality than the Les Paul I bought 3 months ago for double the price! And that’s another Gibson so there ya go, kinda depends on what day it was built I guess :)
Value
It is worth it to me! Look, these guitars are not cheap, at 2k dollars, that’s a lot of money to spend on anything. It’s an investment and that’s why it’s SO important that these guitars are built well, why company’s like Gibson has to continue to focus on quality over anything else!
Manufacturer Support
I have not. Not directly with Gibson. I’ve only dealt with zZounds on previous issues with previous purchases and zZounds customer service is top notch!
The Wow Factor
It’s really nice looking, it’s a SG, large pick guard (batwing style). Has been played and loved by millions! Tried and true, if you will :) the actually fit and finish of this guitar is 10/10 beautiful polish, stain and grain is really nice!

Ok, well these words will describe. This SG packs a punch. Never been a Gibson fan but always liked the look of the SG. This guitar looks amazing and does exactly what I need.I've had it week or so and have ignored my other guitars. If you're on the fence just go for it. I'm a real pain to satisfy...this SG and zZounds went well over expectations.

I never thought of myself as an SG guy. I've owned a number of Les Pauls in my 62 years but I saw this SG in the walnut finish and was knocked out. What a gorgeous guitar. Neck dive is not an issue on mine and boy, it plays and sounds like a dream. I am really happy with this guitar. And the customer service from zZounds was top notch as always. I am very very happy with my SG. She's a keeper!
