Us lefties seldom have the opportunity to go into a local music store and try several before buying. The 2017 specs caught my attention. So I ordered one and quite frankly finish was rather good. the neck was sweet, and the sound was horrible to my ears. It was a dud. I have another axe with 57 Classics and the first one just did not even come close. I so much wanted to like the first one and objectively, it would have sat in it's case and never be played had I kept it. Thanks to zZounds return/exchange policy, I decided to give a replacement a try. Glad I did! The second one's fit, finish, and sound was night and day different. Much closer to what I had expected in the first place. The 2017 SG Standard T is a keeper. I believe time will tell the 2017 model to be a very good year. Pick one up while you still can...

This is a great guitar. I’m super impressed. I’ve only owned an SGJ before this one. Right out of the box it was setup nicely and felt amazing. The tone of the 57 Classics are .. Classic! The weight was light and the neck was thin, thinner than the SGJ (which has a 50’s style neck). The guitar is gorgeous. Mine has a beautiful medium red body with dark red burst on the edges and back. It looks stunning just like the picture on the web site here. I changed the Gibson strings for ones I prefer (Ernie Ball Power). The locking tuners did their job making string changes easy. From the factory the setup was good. I made a small action change and adjusted the truss rod a 1/4 turn. Pickup height was great right out of the box. The guitar has the Gibson PCB control board with the pots and connectors built in. This guitar came with the Classic 57 pickups which had 4 conductor wiring, although the PCB did not have push pull pots. Because I wanted to use the coil tap available on the pickups I ended up pulling the PCB and installing Emerson pots (volume) and CTS push pulls which did in fact fit. The back cover even fits flush with the push pulls! I used the CTS pots with the black plastic back and the ‘board’ on the side. They’re the only ones that fit. I had no issues whatsoever with the factory Gibson PCB - I just wanted the push pulls for coil tap. The guitar cams with a sweet hard shell case and other case candy including the Gibson multi-tool. The finish on the guitar was flawless. I love the smell of nitro curing :) Overall this is a 10/10 guitar. zZounds got it shipped in 48 hours without issue. Super happy and love my new Axe. Five star rating except Features because a Gibson SG Standard should have factory push pulls like Les Pauls do.
