This SG has exceeded my expectations… and I am a reasonably picky individual. The color is brilliant (I have waited a very long time for a Gibson in this particular color in this price bracket) and the pickups are extraordinary responsive and ‘feel’ great with this particular instrument. Syrupy. Bubbly. Chime without being brittle. Great output. Good resonance unplugged. After adjusting the action and doing the tweaks that I always do to SG Standards (foam wedges under the pickups so they slope with the strings, setup, nut filing (for tuning stability and to facilitate 10-52s) truss Rod adjustment, saddle adjustment, and what not) it was ready to go. I know that sounds like a lot but with many guitar brands it’s a lot more than that . Fantastic Instrument!

Wow! This thing is beautiful. The finish is flat (meaning it isn't metal flake). The larger "bat wing" pickguard adds more black to balance the silver, too. I'll be replacing the white switch tip with a chrome one.The neck on this model is a bit thicker than the classic slim-taper but it's not uncomfortable.Out of the box, the intonation was good, but the truss rod needed a slight adjustment. The QC is good; no tooling marks or fret buzz. And the sound? Being an SG, the sound is a bit thinner and brighter than a Les Paul but those Alnico II 490s deliver plenty of kerrang, especially when cranked through an EVH Iconic Series combo. (Some people on-line knock the 490s but I like them.) I bought this from zZounds on sale for a little less than some recent Epiphone models. Buying the Gibson here is a no-brainer.Shout-out to zZounds for their consistently quick delivery. I had mine less than 40 hours after placing my order.

Man, this guitar is beautiful. It was perfect out of the box. I did tweak the truss rod and adjust the intonation. But that’s all. This guitar is worth every penny.

This is my third Gibson I've purchased through zZounds and my very first SG ever! I've heard rumblings of "poor quality control" over the past decade about Gibsons but I have not been able to find a single flaw on any of my Gibsons. It's refreshing to know that there are people still taking pride in American craftsmanship. I am absolutely in love with my Cardinal Red Burst, Gibson SG Standard. I was a little worried over the SG's reputation of having "neck dive" but mine is perfectly balanced and the neck itself has just the right amount of chunkiness that it fits perfectly into my hand. I gave her a good test run last night and after some heavy playing and bending... Still perfectly in tune! Thank you to the workers at Gibson for making incredible guitars and thank you zZounds for putting them in my hands! My Gibson SG is hands down one of the best guitars I've owned!
