I am happy to get a hold of one of these. I doubt I'll get rid of it, but I'm not certain how much use it will get. The tone on it is what got me hooked.
Sound
I was shocked when I picked this piece up. I got it just for the cool factor, and the tone on this beast is simply just that, a beast. Absolutely the fattest tone I've ever heard on a Explorer. Maybe the pickups? Maybe the body style? Dunno, but notes and chords are fat, chunky and thick. True, not just fat, not just chunky, not just thick, but all of the three! I ran it into a JVM 410H--Vintage 30 cab. I then compared it to a 84 Reissue Explorer, and thought the tone was better on the Reverse one. Didn't have the same bite as the re-issue, but again, was a 'bigger' tone.
Features
Basic features of an Explorer.
Ease of Use
It takes a little getting used to, as there's no where to rest your arm like a regular Explorer
Quality
Finish looked incredible. Looks black in regular light, put a bunch of light on it the thing shows its true color. Pups are great, and electronics work as expected. Fret job perfect, I got a good one from the factory.
Value
way overpriced!
Manufacturer Support
I've dealt with Gibson before on other things, and I've always been happy with the way they have handled everything.
The Wow Factor
It's sexy. It's George Jetson guitar.
