"the roadie's view of Platinum Penta"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
very good compressor, sold a rack full of them on eBay. lasted over 300 gigs, and arround 4000 miles. used loads. selling them because I can now get the same features on a digital mixer. i think they are great for anologue mixers but now it just "an extra box" "an extra insert loom". because i can get the same quality over digital and less space
Sound
Very good sound proccessing, like the "Tube Sound" feature. Makes a massive difference for a Clavi.
Features
Enjoyed the features, Didn't like having to select different instruments every power on. when you have a rack full of them it can be quite hard.
Ease of Use
easy Interface, however the controlls for adjusting the compression dont have time markers on it, it is just a load of dots
Quality
one of the best high-end compressors arround
Value
good, but could have had a built in Deesser or expander
Manufacturer Support
good instruction manual, never had to upgrade, repair or contact Focusrite
The Wow Factor
s'nice and sheek but doesnt look as good as the newer stuff.

Focusrite Platinum Penta Customer Review

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
For the money this was a great buy for me. I have been recoring my 13 year old daughter. She has a very strong and dynamic voice. Other units I have tried on her voice just could not give me a good steady recoring level without making the signal to breathy. Before I had to worry about the levels all the time and now I can not worry about the levels and I set them.
Sound
Seems to be very good, I am sure there is better.
Quality
All the parts seem to be solid and nothing seems fragile to me.
Value
A great piece of gear for the money.
Manufacturer Support
I have had to need for support for this item. That is a good thing, right?
The Wow Factor
This was a must for my studio use. I have tried other brand withoug getting the results I needed.

"Very nice results and very easy. Encourages you to use ears instead of number crunching"

Excellent for project setups BUT you will outgrow it.
Sound
much better than going straight into my m-audio firewire 410!
Features
could do with an exciter and de-esser. but very well kitted out for the price.
Quality
very good for this price. Project people can put everything through it to add a bit of warmth and sparkle.
Value
Very good and usable but you will want to upgrade once you get used to it. if you can spend a bit more then get voicemaster pro.
Manufacturer Support
No need as yet.
The Wow Factor
Looks big and has lots of lights! good results are very easy to obtain.
