This is a gorgeous instrument, and it is the best sounding bass I have ever had the pleasure of playing. That being said, within three weeks of receiving it, the volume pot started crackling and eventually stopped working entirely. These parts are sometimes just bad from the beginning, and this may just be a random bit of bad luck. Because I've never had an issue like this with any other bass, though, new or old, it was a little disappointing. I love this instrument, but I would expect a $2k bass to be perfect (or at least playable) for a lot longer than three weeks. It's in for warranty repair, so we'll see whether this is just a minor inconvenience or something really unfortunate. If you value tone and vibe above all else, I would unquestionably recommend this bass. If you need something absolutely reliable (and don't want to take the neck off to adjust the truss rod) get a Music Man instead.

Thanks to zZounds I was able to buy the bass of my dreams. I own and mostly played my MusicMan Stingray 4 & 5 string. The best feeling necks for me. Until I found this Fender American Vintage 63' P bass (3 tone). After much research I decided to buy it sight un seen. It exceeded all of my expectations and then some. Being hugely influenced by James Jamerson this looked like the closest I could get without spending $10,000 or more. What I got was better than the real thing. This 63' re issue is probably what a new one was like. Best neck ever! I have huge hands and played my 5 string mostly for the neck width. The overall quality of the bass & case are the best I've ever seen. I want to relic my own bass thank you. Took it straight to my guy to have La Bella flats 52 - 110 and make some minor adjustments for my taste. Pure Magic! Give the strings a few years to break in. Will be buying a second one (Sonic blue)

I've had this splendid instrument for a month now, and not long after purchasing it, I had it set up professionally. I replaced the roundwound strings with La Bella heavy gauge flatwounds for that good ol' thumpy Motown sound, and I am very much impressed with the sound I'm getting. It's expensive, but worth every penny.
