The last good Stratocaster I owned was a 1979 Antigua strat that I ended up selling in the 80's.. So, when I started researching for a new strat, after years of playing an SG and Les Paul, I knew what I wanted. Big headstock, hot pickups and American quality. I ordered the Vintera 2 70's strat when it came out, and, although beautiful, the pickups left much to be desired. Weak in my opinion. And uninspiring. Back it went. Then I discovered the American Performer series, and ordered the Sugar Pine from the Timber series. This Sugar Pine strat instantly converted me into a strat guy!Beautiful finish, perfect frets, and a fast, fast smooth neck. No one does a neck as good as Fender. Anyway, I love this strat. Nice and light, but solid as a rock. Once again, zZounds comes through to provide the absolute best equipment available to this musician. I also ordered a Laney Lionheart amp which really makes the Strat shine. Have no qualms about this Stratocaster. It is a killer tone monster.
Sound
Absolutely perfect pickups. Loud, powerful Fender single coils with a push-pull on the lower tone knob for a total of 7, count 'em, 7 tonal options.
Features
The Sugar Pine is fantastic. Perfect weight and awesome tone. Although,in person, this guitar is gorgeous, much better than photo's, its the pickups that make this a superior strat.
Ease of Use
With the Laney amp I bought, this strat came alive and caused me to ignore my other guitars. Have you ever wished there were more hours in the day so that you could keep playing a great guitar? Thats this strat.
Quality
Well made, American strat. The only blemish was a small chip out of the Fender logo on the headstock. Strings were perfect heighth, frets were silky smooth, electronics working perfectly. Solid as a rock guitar.
Value
I got an open box deal. I always try to scoop up discounts. Even at retail, this guitar is well worth the money. I would take this over any guitar in Fenders lineup at the price.
