Pros:The fit and finish are fantastic. The aged candy apple red looks incredible in person, and the tinted maple neck and fretboard compliment it nicely. Out of the box, the setup was surprisingly close to how I tend to do my setups. Low action, easy to play and bend, etc. The nut has some issues, however. Will get to that later. The pickups are very nice for noiseless. Normally I’m not a fan of noiseless pickups, but these don’t leave a whole lot to be desired. Very articulate, beefy, and the push pull function gives a lot of tonal variety from just two pickups. Cons:The faults I found with mine are more QC related than anything else. The tint / fretboard oil used wasn’t dry when the frets were installed, so there is a lot of tinted finish built up on the side of multiple frets. As you run your hand up and down the fingerboard, the strings will slide against the finish and make a ‘crinkly’ sound. It’s only audible in person, and the finish on the frets will flake off if you’re persistent enough with a fingernail, pick, or razor blade. Not a big deal, I suppose, but kind of unacceptable for a guitar that is over $1,000. As I mentioned before, the nut has some issues. The nut is cut rather tight, as the strings get caught in it and ‘ping’ when tuning or bending behind the nut. Nothing a little work won’t solve, but again, we’re talking an instrument that is over $1,000 now. Overall:A pretty good value. The guitar has some small quirks that can be worked out, which I don’t mind. But I’ve played brand new Squier Telecasters at a fraction of the price that didn’t have these types of QC issues. Be that as it may, this is still a very nice and comfortable guitar that belongs in just about every arsenal.

I was originally looking at the Fender American Performer when I came across the player plus. Already familiar with the plus series I decided to save some money and give the player plus a try. I'm so glad I did. This guitar is absolutely beautiful!! The action was perfect right out of the box, the noiseless pups sound great and the finish (mine is the 3 tone sunburst) is gorgeous! The craftsmanship and attention to detail all around is mind blowing at this price point. You get a lot of guitar for the money. If I had to say something negative about this guitar I'd say I'm not all that impressed with the pull/push control. It adds a small volume boost but it's rather muddy sounding. That's about it on the negative side and it's probably more of a personal issue than anything else. It's definitely not a deal breaker. If you're looking for a great guitar that doesn't break the bank this is it! And last but not least a big shout-out to zZounds for their excellent customer service. I've been dealing with them for to many years to mention and I've never been disappointed.
