Having just owned a Fender USA Standard Precision Bass, as well as a USA Deluxe, I was a little skeptical of buying this new "Signature" model bass from Fender. I have to say that I was glad I did. Out of the box, this bass was flawless! The only thing Fender could do to make it look better would be to give the neck a nice vintage tint. Other than that, holy cow! The neck on this thing is rock solid and the vintage style fretwork is better than the USA Standard I previously owned. The action out of the box was good, but I took it a touch lower and it's now perfect for me, with no undue fret buzz up and down the neck. The tuners also seem to hold quite well.
Build and finish aside, what really impresses me about this bass is the TONE!!! Both of my previous USA Precisions sounded great, but were a little lacking in that fundamental low end - favoring the mids instead. With THIS BASS, I'm getting a much warmer, but clear tone. I'm getting the full spectrum - deep bass, solid mids and enough top end to track me through a mix. I took it to band practice the other night, plugged it into a vintage Music Man HD-130 rig (which is already a bright amp) and could easily feel the tone in my boots. The tone was, appropriately enough, VERY reminiscent of a '76 Precision that I had also owned several years ago.
All in all, Fender nailed this one. I think any fan of vintage Precision Basses will be happy with this purchase. I don't recommend paying full price, as I do believe the retail price is a bit high. You're essentially paying for the Dee Dee Ramone signature on the back of the headstock. Shop around and get a deal!
Cheers!!!

Dee Dee's signature bass guitar by Fender is overall one of the best bass guitars I have ever owned.
If your looking for something close or wanting to get a Fender's American standard (pbass or Jazz bass) Honestly, this bass is just as good or even equally to the American Standard.
The sound that Dee Dee is bright and with a punch sound. With the right set of gear plus that fenders signature sound, you can create the perfect tone. Easily.
I use a Orange bass Terror 500 amp through a 8x10 ampeg Classic. Plus a sansamp pedal as support and BAM! We are ready to go!
Sound
Magnificent. The sound that Fender brings to their basses is just perfect. It's has a great tone right when you play it and it feels great too. I have a lot of bass and drums solos in my band. Playing it live brings a lot of my bass tone more and cleaner. I put this bass to test by playing in different tuning from standard E to drop C. It sounds great.
If I had a tip to make it sound better. Hmm....don't play this instrument in Drop C. Stay in standard. You'll have more fun playing and it sounds sick.

I wasn't feeling the black pick gaurd with white. That's all.

"A great bass"

This Dee Dee tribute bass is made beautifully and has that classic 70's vibe to it. Nice glossy, chunky neck and an overall great feel. I own many actual 70's P basses and this one is right up there with them. It is a MIM but the quality is all there. I changed the pick guard to a tortoise one and it looks awesome against the white finish. Very decent price. A damn good bass.
