"My first Telecaster and she's a beauty"

After spending much of my time debating to buy an electric guitar I decided to do some research and purchase one. That research led me to zZounds and to the Fender American Special Telecaster. This guitar is beautiful from the Sherwood Green metallic paint to the 22 jumbo frets on rosewood (which is favorable for large hand players like myself looking for a warm sound) to the Fender Custom Shop Texas Special pickups producing a tone that ranges from Classic Rock, Blues Rock, Country, and Hard Rock. This American guitar is under priced and is by far the best valued. I honestly don't see Fender keeping this line at this price (and as of this review the line has been discountinued in December 2018). So if you can grab an American Special before they are sold out go get one. The vintage styling and reliability is classic Fender Telecaster. What I liked particularly is I bought an American built Guitar with Custom Shop pickups that has a rosewood fretboard without any extra gimmicky features. This is the guitar to customize to your liking. I have since added Fender "F" logo locking tuners, Fender/Schaller straplocks, and a customized Fender control plate that includes a Fender 4-way selector and a kill switch button. I also bought a Fender Black and White twill guitar case with matching strap. All these add-ons on a solid guitar off the line while keeping it all Fender but customized to my liking. With the price point of $1,050 I essentially have a customized American built Tele with a versatile tone and accessories for under $1500. And I was able to add all the customization and accessories over time without breaking the bank and when I was ready to do it. To me this is a steal! If you love Rock Blues like I do this guitar does it so well. Adding a Fender 4-way selector switch to the control plate adds a 4th position of the bridge and neck being in series. This produces a thick almost humbucking sound and the best part with the CS Texas Special pickups this customization is easy to install and particularly made for the 4th selector switch. With it you get the benefits of noise cancelling in positions 2 in parallel and 4 in series without losing the classic Tele tones in positions 1 and 3. I couldn't be more happier. The only drawbacks I have is my guitar wasn't ready to play out-the-box like others have commented. The action was high and the guitar definitely needed a set up but afterwards this Tele rocks! The included gig bag is a no frill so-so gig bag but understandable considering the value you're getting with the guitar. This Tele not coming with a hard case reduces the cost a couple of hundred dollars. You will not hear complaints on the craftsmanship of the Fender American Special Telecaster. I couldn't be more happier with this purchase and the no interest play-while-you-pay option by zZounds is unmatched. Since my purchase of this Tele in 2018 I have purchased a beautiful Fender California series Rodondo Classic electric acoustic in 2019 for the jaw dropping price of $200 below MSRP. By far zZounds beats all online competitors on price. I will continue to buy from zZounds.

I was a little worried with what fender has been doing on there lower American stuff lately but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised after the worry passed and I opened the box. I'm definitely satisfied, get one before there over a grand!
Sound
I first plugged it into a 57 gretsch combo( champ like) and played the hell out of it. The texas specials break the amp up nicely but still stay really clear and the tone circuit really does work well.
Features
No Frills, like a tele should be really besides the grease bucket tone circuit that works really well. Oh and the jumbo's...love the jumbo's
Ease of Use
It was plug and play, Really smooth pots...and the big frets make it wonderful to play...
Quality
The action was a little high and the .009's were way to light but I was amazed at how nice the finish was, the build quality, the action in the pots...they weren't stiff like alot of newer stuff is now...It has a gorgeous brazillian rosewood fretboard and i know my rosewood...I build pool cues for a day job and this rates up with some of the highest quality wood that i have. The frets are finished nicely...no railroad tracks sliding up.
Value
You can't buy much for under a grand nowdays and this is one that i recommend picking up before it to is over the 1000.00 mark. It's well worth it.
Manufacturer Support
Never talked to em
The Wow Factor
A tele is a tool, and like any other tool will do what ever you make it do...But theres things a tele can do that nothing else can.

I'm very happy with this tele, I have a strat and with this tele I feel that theres no limit to the music I can make. So, let's start with the tele fret board. It appears that fender spent allot of time on this. It is really nice. The rest of the guitar is what I expected a tele to be. For 1000$ it's well forth the money.... the issue I had was the set up on the guitar. Out the box, it was out of tune and needed a little work. But after the set up, wow!!! This tele rocks!!! It is way passed what I exspected. I would like to say thanks to zZounds for the great service!
