"These are the BEST Powered Speakers period..."
We hope to keep on using the 6a's, as they are the Best powered speaker we,ve used. We always get great complements on their sound quality. A club we play bought 2 of them to replace his Mackie 450's that he had lots of problems with. That's good for us as we do not have to use ours when we play there now.
Sound
The Maxx 6a's are amazing! Biamped with 700 watts rms to the 15" woofer and 200 watts rms to the 2 1/2 in high frequency horn for 900 watts rms total. the lows get right down there for great bass response and our band no longer needs to use subs for most of our gigs. The highs are smooth and warm. we,ve played gigs in some fairly large rooms with up to 600 people and the 6a's delivered the goods even all the way in the back. We mike up the Keys, all drums, bass gtr., etc, and they never thermal out or choke out. There Clean, Clear and LOUD!
If your looking to get the BEST Powered Speaker system, look no further, the Maxx 6a's blow away any powered boxes including the mackie 450's and definetely the JBL G 2 Eon, both which we prevoiusly used. The Maxx 6a's have more than twice the power. the Maxx line also has a 3 band EQ that can come in handy in some rooms for a little twicking without having to adjust on the mixer, as we do not have a soundman at most of our gigs. They also have a gain control that allows you to match the signal from the mixer to the internal preamp level of the 6a's and also a master volume control.
They do weigh about 65 lbs., and it takes 2 people to place them on a speaker stand, but the jbl and mackies weigh about 50 lbs. ea anyway and it was still a little cumbersome to place those speakers on a speaker with 1 guy anyway.
Features
Nice long 15ft. power cable it comes with is helpful, most others only come with about a 8 ft. power cable. The neautrik input jack accepts a regular 1/4" jack or an XLR mic cable for a balanced connection, Use XLR mic cables to prvent any AC humming and a balanced connection. There also is a ground lift button on the speaker panel that helps if you are using them on differnt AC circuits to stop any AC hum. some of the places we,ve played has lousy AC power and without a ground lift switch, you have to use a cheater plug to stop the AC hum, and this can lead to mic/ instrument shocks, ouch!
Ease of Use
The maxx 6a's gain control should be set at 0 db on the dial. You can then turn up the Master volume control to full. If you set them up this way, you get kickass clean LOUD sound. when we first set them up we were confused by the gain and a volume control, but once you set this up correctly, they are amazing.
Quality
The Maxx speakers are Made in Italy. The quality is excellent as you should expect from Italian made products. we,ve had the Maxx 6a's for about a yr., they are being used 2-3 nights a week and we,ve had no problems with them. they come with a 3 yr. warranty. Downside is that the cabinets are polypropylene and can scratch fairly easily. FBT makes covers for them and the dealer we bought them from did not tell us about the covers when we bought them. A DJ at a club we play told us aboiut the covers about 6 months later and we got the covers which are nice heavy duty padded nylon. this stopped them from getting any more scratches or scrapes on them.
