This is my second guitar, but my first ever electric guitar. I have an acoustic as well. This electric guitar is perfect for a beginner which I am by far. I read a bunch of reviews about this guitar pack before the purchase and I am more than happy. The finish on the guitar is well done. The strings are smooth and light which is perfect for a beginner's fingers to start out. It is beautifully designed and has a good weight on it. The extras that came with this pack are extremely helpful. The strap is decent, haven't had any issues with it so far. The only complaint about the electronic tuner is that it came without batteries, which could be my fault for not reading if it came with or not. An issue that can easily be corrected with the purchase of the batteries of course. The Gig Bag is good. It could offer a little more padding, but you won't be slinging it on the ground, I hope, so you should be fine. Now, here was my deal maker. As I said I read a bunch of reviews and most said that the 15 Watt Amp wasn't good etc. Beginners listen up, the Amp is amazing for what you will need. I still do not know too much about Amps, but I am learning. The sound quality from the Amp is really good and the different options to change the sound work well. Now, obviously the Amp is not super high grade, but this guitar pack is mostly centered around starters and beginners so it is perfect. Now, I know I wrote a lot, but I hate it when I read a review about a product and the only thing it states is: "Yeah, the product is okay." As if that will make me buy it you know? So, here is my review. You can't go wrong with this guitar pack honestly and with the payment plans it's a no brainer. Also, beginners if you want to learn how to play without dishing so much money on teachers buy Rocksmith 2014. I purchsed the game shortly after the guitar came and I am picking things up smoothly. Its up to you, but the game has helped me and this guitar rocks with the game very good! Final verdict: 10/10.

"WOW! Great Pack and ZZOUNDS is a Great Store."

I was looking to get back into playing guitar. I use to play very little in my teens. For a month now I have been playing around with a Peavey Rockmaster and a Fender PR241 practice amp. I came across ZZOUNDS when I was hunting for practice music and got interested in buying a new guitar. I came across the Epiphone LP Performance Pack and remembered when I was a teen I would go to Murffys Music everyday after school and they use to sell Epiphone guitars. The owner became good friends and showed me a lot about fixing and setting up guitars, but I didn't take learning seriously. It was 1990 and that was the first time I seen an Epiphone guitar. The guys at Murffys Music would always let me use an Epiphone guitar to practice on. I kinda had a feel for an Epiphone, but I haven't picked one up in years till now. The Les Paul Performance Pack has a great feel to it.
Sound
The sound is better then I thought it was going to be. For a practice pack and or as maybe an everyday player, the Les Paul sound like you could plug it into a bigger amp and rock on. The Epiphone Electar 15R is a nice little amp. The Electar 15R sounds better then my little Fender PR241. With the Les Paul into both amps. The Electar 15R sounds fuller, richer, and over all just a better sound. The speaker in the Electar 15R sounds good and can produce the sound your looking for from the Les Paul, but at high volume just like everything else with a small speaker it will distort with out the over drive on. I haven't tested the amps watts yet, but I think with a bigger speaker in the Electar 15R maybe a 20 watt speaker it wouldn't distort so bad. But, then again my little Fender PR 241 distorts a lot faster as you tune the volume up. Also it is a practice amp.
Features
I like the way the Tune-O-Matic Bridge is set up to adjust. I like how the tuning keys are not plastic. This for being a practice guitar has a lot more to it then just being a practice guitar. You can feel confident when showing it to people and not feeling like you bought a cheap guitar. The amp controls are nice. EQ, Reverb, clean and over drive are always a plus to have. Nice to have a headphone jack so you don't feel embarrassed when your playing and other can't hear how bad I am.
Ease of Use
I always loved the way a Les Paul looked. I think having the Pickup Selector Switch is better being located with the volume and tone controls for easy use. The controls on the amp are set up in a way that is not confusing. Just about set up like any other amp. I can reach over without really looking to adjust my amp on the fly.
Quality
The Epiphone Performance Pack is a very good quality guitar. Feels good, my hand is not uncomfortable with the frets. I kinda wish the fret board was a little wider and the strings were spaced out a little more. I tuned the Les Paul up and every time I pick it up it's still in tune. To me, the guitar feels a little heavy in weight, but with the Peavey Rockmaster is not much to campier too. The Les Paul feels like a solid guitar. Just picking it up and can feel its not like a cheaply built one. The Electar amp is ok. It feels like it is well built, but I never seen an amp with a transformer power supply before. The control knobs look like cheap plastic knobs, but at moderate volume to a little on the loud side the amps pretty good. Its not a 40 watt 12 inch speaker, would be nice... But I think with a 20 watt 10 inch speaker the amp wouldn't distort as fast at higher volumes. The guitar tuner is a nice add on. East to use and seems to be ok. One thing I hate is the patch wire. It seems to be a cheap wire. Most all kits come with the same patch wire, but its good for now. Also, I'm not too keen on a guitar bag. I think I'll get a case in the future.
Value
Well, this is hard for me to say. I know back in the 1990's a Epiphone was not all that cheap back then, at least not the one's I seen. For an amp, guitar, gig bag, and all the accessories I really think its a fair price. When I seen this pack on ZZounds I did do some looking around online and other places. Everyone is about the same price. But I think for the quality of the guitar your getting for the price, this is a good deal. The eMdia gives you one lesson, after the 5 min and the little the program shows you to go to the next step you have to buy it. Not really Free Lessons.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had to make the call yet... Gave Support 5stars because have to give them something.
The Wow Factor
I don't know where to begin. The price and how ZZounds has the pay as you play plan, that's a nice wow factor in my book. Over all, I would say the Epiphone Les Paul. I know its not a Gibson, but I think this is as close as I'm going to get to a Gibson. I rather learn how to play a lot better before I think about an upgrade. And I think I would be buying another Epiphone LP for my upgrade. The feel of the guitar is a real wow factor. Its very comfortable to put on your leg and practice. The amp isn't really that impressive. Its got good sound quality so its not a bad amp. I get a wow! every time I show the guitar off. Makes me feel good that others are impressed with it.

I couldn't wait to get this in my hands to make a lot of noise, (beginner). I like this, everything you need to get started. eMedia is not free. They give you a part of a lesson and then they want your membership. The amp isn't bad, 15 watts on a 8 inch speaker is a little much for the driver they put in the amp. I seen a You Tube video with this same Les Paul Special II with a Line 6 Spider IV 30 amp, so I bought the same amp. Sounds unreal. The only problem I am having with the Les Paul is it wont stay in tune.
Sound
The Les Paul Special II sounds good with the 15R amp it comes with. Sounds better with an upgraded amp. The 15R amps 8 inch speaker I think can not handle the 15 watts. I haven't tested if it is the amp distorting or the speaker. Seems like you can turn up the amp on clean and still have distortion.
Features
Kinda basic. I like the Tune-O-Matic bridge. My Les Paul Special II wasn't really set up too well. Action was a little high, tuning was off and Intonation wasn't set. The amp is basic too, but hay.... its a practice guitar, good for what I am and that's a beginner. The tuners are not that great. I can bend a note and watch the tuning post move.
Ease of Use
All the controls are easy to get to. Now I did a set up on the action, it feels good. No fret buzzing. Keeping mine in tune is a little rough. The 15R amp is good. All the controls are easy to read and know where they are.
Quality
Ok, the Les Paul Special II guitar is nicely made. Pickups are ok. Basic starter guitar pickups. The nut is plastic, that part I'm not liking too well. The Tune-O-Matic bridge works good. The tuning keys is my only problem. I'm thinking of getting some Grover's, just haven't found what would be the best fit yet. My opinion, this could be an every day player if it wasn't for the tuners. Its made well, sounds good, with an upgraded amp.
Value
Well, practice or beginner. The price was right to get everything you need to get on the road to playing, except using eMedia to learn to play. When someone said, Free Lessons! That's kinda why I jumped on this. Lessons from eMedia are not FREE.
Manufacturer Support
Haven't had to contact them on anything. The tuners would be replaceable, but they would prob send the same ones.
The Wow Factor
My wow.... Great price, nice product (except tuners). Like the Pay as you Play plan. Sound is great, amp is ok for a practice amp. One wow factor was seeing a wall wart for a power supply. That I never seen on an amp.

"Best Guitar pack out there! "Epiphone performance pack""

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I have been playing guitar since I was 14 now 60 and still love to play. I did stop playing for several years. I sold my guitars and pawned them when money was tight and etc. After all this time off I decided to invest in a couple of guitars, A Fender acoustic, and this Epiphone Les Paul performance pack. I did not purchase it here, at the time zZounds did not have a blemished guitar player pack. So I had to go to another vendor to get a discount blemished player pack. Money had to be saved up to purchase the package anyway, This guitar and the amp is perfect for small gig's and most of all for recording and writing music. The Guitar I will keep for the rest of my life and pass it down. This guitar is as good as it gets, with the humbuckers that come on the special II. The other more expensive guitars have all the pearl inlay on the fret board and perfling inlay around the top and back. Plus binding on the neck and body. Gold hardware, glue on neck. All these bells and whistles look good and up the price two three times or more than a naked guitar cost. The sound the playability and all the functions are just as good as the more expensive guitars. Don't believe me? go check out a Epiphone Les Paul 100 and compare the sound of both! the pick's are the same that come on the Special II. If I had this guitar 45 years ago I would have thought I died and went to heaven the amp also. The amp will break or make the sound as does the volume of the amp. When you learn how to adjust the amp for the best quality sound for rhythm for lead, for rock and metal & country. Then you will appreciate the 15 watt amp even more. When you use a humbucker pickup the volume does not need to be cranked up in order to get the distortion or clean sound you are looking for. The magnets are really strong and really increase the volume. If you are after clarity when distortion is used, the right adjustment is critical to the quality and clarity of the amp. When you use the overdrive you will use the drive anyway that you prefer but not to the point of nasty snarly but clarity and that comes with the volume control. The volume need not be cranked out maximum for great sound and clarity. For your rhythm the adjustments are critical, the again volume and treble, middle, bass and level all play the part of the sweet sound of clean lead and rhythm. Every amp is different, if you can remember four setting's that sound the best on your amp you can adjust the amp lickaty-split and have the amp sound like a dream come true. Watch the video and it will show you the general ball park of adjusting the amp for each type music you may play. Check it out you may be surprised as to what you think of your new amp guitar combo.

I had been playing classical guitar on and off since I was 12. I always wanted an electric guitar but did not know what to get. The reviews of this guitar convinced me now was the time. It was also the right price. I thought for the price I could get going without breaking the bank and move up later. For the beginner this guitar is an outstanding choice. I received the guitar pack two days after ordering. The guitar and amp where well packed with no scratches or damage. All parts advertised were included. Everything on the guitar was already set up except the tuning which was made very easy with the included digital tuner. The tuner did have the necessary batteries. The 15 watt amp works great and just remember it is a practice amp. If you want to blast the neighbors or play a gig you will need something else. The guitar sounds great. The gig bag is OK but I will most likely get a hard case soon to really protect the guitar. The emedia program does not really work on my PC ( I am running windows XP so that's probably why). All in all I am really pleased with my purchase (the play as you pay is great feature too).
