This guitar is fantastic!! Epiphone has really stepped up their game with quality workmanship. I am totally impressed with everything about this guitar. The finish is killer and man do the Thrash Factor pickups sound great..sustain for days. There wasn't a single blemish! Typically when I buy a guitar, I need to polish the frets, file the fret ends down and do a full set up. The only thing I had to do was to lower the action. If you are looking for a killer V, look no further.

For the record, Megadeth and/or Mustaine are not really my jam (at all). I ordered this Epiphone Custom because I liked the look. I wanted an affordable V that came with solid components (plus the price dropped $300) ha ha! Anyways, I was quite shocked and VERY pleasantly surprised by the level of quality control and premium features on this baby. But when I plugged it in, the real lovefest kicked in!! This is an incredibly versatile instrument, and it is largely due to the delicious Duncan pickups. Yes, the Dave Mustaine thrash factor is in the bridge, and that is an excellent & articulate high gain humbucker. But there is also a Seymour Duncan SH-1 '59 pup In the neck position. It is not just a clone of the flash factor model. It's a much juicier PAF style humbucker that pairs awesomely with the bridge, and truly warms up the entire soundscape of this guitar. I ordered this from zZounds and it arrived in 2 days ready to rock. The setup was so close to being perfect, it's barely worth mentioning. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this guitar almost plays itself. It has a nice slim-taper style neck, nicely finished frets, a slick ebony fingerboard, and easy action. I'm having a heck of a good time discovering all the tones I can squeeze out of this beauty. Here's a Flying V for under $1100 (w/hardshell case) that seems to be able to cover everything from Anthrax to ZZ Top. No kidding. Oh, and did I mention it really IS a beautiful thing to behold in person?!!? It's finished much more expertly than the Gibson USA counterpart, as though somebody actually cared. I would highly recommend this Mustaine model to any player that likes the V body shape, regardless of skill level. It's a wildly fun & easily playable instrument that really hits above its class!!!
