I will never go back to regular frets. The stainless steel frets are worth the 899 price tag for an Epiphone. Fret work is perfect, not a single sharp edge. Definitely lighter than a regular les Paul, mine comes in at 8.07lbs. I was skeptical of the Firestorm color but once I've seen it with my own eyes, it has a sunset (copper, yellow and orange) color pallet effect. I was concerned of the hot pickups, but not anymore. It is crystal clear and not muddy or harsh in tone. The ebony fretboard sort of mellows it out. The electronics work great, the best part is the Peter Green out-of-phase effect that you can make. When you tap the pickups it creates sort of a P90 sound. It's not a true coil split. In a sense you're getting three guitars in one (based on sound) Overall I'd rate this 9/10. (-1 had to do some minor setup)
Sound
This guitar offers incredible sound for the price point. The pickups provide impressive clarity without becoming muddy, and the fretboard wood helps balance the output, resulting in a smooth, well-rounded tone that tames the hot signal.
Features
While the coil-tapping feature is a nice addition to have, I personally don't find it necessary for my playing style. I tend to keep that feature turned off, though I appreciate that the option is available for those who want it.
Ease of Use
I already own several Les Paul's, including an Epiphone Custom, and this model delivers that familiar, classic feel but with a slightly hotter output that really shines for blues-rock. It has quickly become a staple in my studio, and given how well it handles my pedalboard, I’m planning to add it to my live gigging rotation as well.
Quality
The build quality of this Epiphone Futura Les Paul Custom is truly impressive, especially considering it is manufactured in China. The standout feature for me is the locking tuners; they are fantastic and keep the guitar perfectly in tune, no matter how aggressively I play or bend the strings.
Value
This guitar is an absolute steal and worth every penny. I’m honestly shocked that it’s priced at only $899. Getting stainless steel frets at this price point is incredible usually, you’d have to pay upwards of $2,000 for a comparable instrument with these specs. The value here is unmatched; I am seriously impressed.
