"Epiphone Hummingbird acoustic"

I have been very impressed in recent years with Epiphone guitars now having (3) on my stands. I have owned Gibson, Fender, Alvarez, Cortez, Oscar Schmidt and others having found the Epiphone line to be an outstanding instrument in both build and playability really challenging or exceeding my older instruments at a lower investment dollar. The Hummingbird 6-string acoustic I found to be beautifully crafted and finished with a crisp full tone and playability knocking on the door of my Les Paul with a low light action and thin comfortable neck. An absolute joy to own.

I read other reviews before ordering. My Hummingbird was delivered FedEx this afternoon 2 days from the day shipped. I love it. This guitar was almost in tune which surprised me. I gave it a tuning and couldn't believe how great it sounds. I highly recommend this instrument.
Sound
Sound quality is excellent. I play jazz, blues, and some Willie Nelson style. This guitar responded to all these in high fashion.

First of all zZounds is excellent they know what customer service is. The Hummingbird was a little disappointing. The wood finish is great the sound is excellent. Found very rough edges on fret board that scratched fingers. I filed them down and not it plays like a dream. I know this is really a low end guitar but I would have expected that Epiphone would have addressed this issue. Was very evident.

Musical Background:

Play at home been playing for about 40 years, have 12 strings and ukelele

Folk, country some rock

"Great Guitar for the money!"

I was in the market for a high-end acoustic and was looking at the new Gibson J15. Before playing the Gibson in a music store I played a 2010 Epiphone Dove in a pawn shop and was impressed how it played so I bought that over the Gibson and saved $1,300.00! I saw this Hummingbird and figured how could I go wrong? This guitar was perfect out of the box. Action was right ( I have small hands) so that is real important along with the size of the neck which is like a 1950's Les Paul but not as thin as the 1960's model. But most of all, the intonation is dead on and so is my pawn shop Dove. My only complaint would be the factory strings sound kinda thin sounding. I use Ernie Earthwoods acoustic strings. I have a Gibson 1992 Classic 1960 Les Paul and a Gibson SG so I appreciate the sound quality of a good instrument. As a side note, I had a Sigma Martin acoustic that I sold because it was not a good musical instrument where these two Epi's I have are. I would strongly recommend this guitar over anything unless you want to spend the money on a high-end Gibson or Martin!

Upon realizing that i've never owned a decent acoustic 6 string I decided it about time that i got one. Came down to this hummingbird or an epi j-45... went for the hummingbird for aesthetics. Apart from being a very pretty guitar, it's got a full, light voice that i'm quite impressed by. Haven't changed the strings out yet, but the ones that came on it are decent. Don't mistake my moderate rating as a slur...i've played on epiphones throughout my life and have always found them enjoyable, so when I bought one I expected a decent guitar. I've played Gibsons and martins that weren't always so good. The finish and components on this guitar are clean and tight, and I see no reason to expect any problems as long as i give it decent care and consideration. The neck is smooth and the frets are well laid. The keys hold it in tune according to how enthused my strumming gets. but it's a lot different from my electrics so I'm still working on my control. It's a good little guitar, and I'd feel safe recommending it, but we all like what we think we need...if ya think you need a guild, pays your money and take your chances. In the end though, it's probably gonna be a matter of talent. I doubt i'll surpass the potential of this guitar for quite some time...but hope springs eternal.

Musical Background:

I'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR OVER 50 YEARS, MOSTLY ELECTRIC 6 AND 12 STRINGS, ELECTRIC BASS FROM TIME TO TIME & A LITTLE SYNTH.

Musical Style:

POP, ROCK & FOLK, BUT MOSTLY THE BLUES.

You get what you pay for.. or not. Wonderfull build and finish. Easy action right out of the box. I tried this on a whim and was surprised the looks and feel. But was not impressed with the sound due to the lam top. It is ok but not for me. Great beginner to intermediate guitar. I must mention I bought the Masterbilt DR500 since and can't express enough the home run Epi hit with this one.

The guitar is very nice looking but that is the only positive. The low end response is very poor. If you want a higher treble sounding guitar then this one is for you, My cheap Dean guitar sounds better than this one. I tried Martin strings and Earthwoods and no difference in the lower end. All I have to show for this is a pretty guitar to show my friends. Very disappointed as I had a Hummingbird back in 2009 that sounded great. If I hadn't thrown all the packing material away I would have sent this back.
