Pedal sounds good even with blues and soft rock. Check out David Gilmours solo album "about face" to hear it in a soft rock setting. The tone stack is very usable and the noise gate works really well. I love this pedal and I don't play deathmetal. It's a very versatile distortion pedal.

I’ve owned the hell melter since it first came out and it has blown me away. I’m into the 80s genre of hard rock like Motley, Ratt..etc. And I always wanted an original Mesa boogie dual rectifier, but I couldn’t afford one so I’ve been on my tone Quest ever since and I found one other pedal. That’ll do what this one does and that’s my ModTone Extreme Metal (now Flextortion), the hell Meltzer offers the same dual concentric mid and low knobs, which allow you to dial in the perfect dual rectifier crank sound even a low levels. This one is just a great paddle. I’ll never get rid of it and it gives you the heaviest, cleanest of heavy tones out there. If you want to get mild distortion to full blown as they put it Hellmelter tone, then buy this paddle. You will not be returning it. I promise you!!
