I'm always searching for new cool sounds, but it's going to take a pretty impressive distortion effect to replace this. I expect it to be my primary sound for a long time. I would definitely replace it ASAP if it were lost or stolen.
Sound
I LOVE this pedal. I've owned one for about a year, and it's been my only heavy sound since I got it. I typically don't like "modeled" effects, but I have to say that this has several sounds that I just love. I like to play a variety of sounds, bluesy, clean and thrash/shred. For the heavy stuff I play a few different Jackson, Charvel, and Ibanez guitars through either a Pearce G1 or a Fender Super Chorus amp. (If you're trying to play metal with single coil pickups then you don't understand the fundamentals. Single coils sound awesome for clean, blues or rock, but anything more than moderate distortion just falls apart tonally. Step one in getting a sound is using the right tool for the job!) This pedal has a model that sounds great through the G1, and a different model that sounds different but just as good through the Fender. Three of the models have a really nice tight punchy distortion with good bottom end and none of that horrible overly treble biased "white noise" sound that so many pedals have. The other models sound a bit loose and under driven to my ears. They'd probably be good for a style with less palm muting and more strumming.
Features
I really do prefer full adjustability of gain, contour, high, mid and low, but since I like the sounds that are there already, I can't really complain.
Ease of Use
It's a stomp box, so there's no issue with ease of use.
Quality
It's a brick. Really. Actually it's probably heavier and more solid feeling than a brick. It's made of metal. You play metal through it. It's a complete circle.
Value
I am very happy with it, therefore I feel it was a good value. The quality is certainly obvious.
Manufacturer Support
Never had a problem with any Digitech product I've ever owner. My 25 year old Digitech 944 Chain Reaction still works perfectly!
The Wow Factor
I love the black chrome effect.
