"Great sound, but some bad design decisions."

I've loved, and struggled with this pedal for a number of years. But now I think I'm going to replace it (with a Little Big Muff). Players who are less reckless than me, might get nothing but joy out of it, so this is definitely not a thumbs-down review!
Sound
I love the sound of this thing. Great gain-boosty fuzz and sustain. What more could you ask for?
Features
There are some major issues here. First off the input/output is reversed which makes cabling inconvenient. Second, there is no power-adaptor option (which is bad if you hate batteries as much as I do). Third, the stomp button is way too close to the chicken-head knobs. I often find this screws me up live as I end up accidentally adjusting the settings when I'm just trying to turn the effect on/off.
Ease of Use
Very easy to get your sound. But the glitches listed in the features section make it hard to use live.
Quality
Very solidly constructed externally... built like a tank in fact. But I've had some internal troubles with it as I tried to use a 9V battery adaptor, and it wasn't too hard to end up stressing the terminal wires and disabling the pedal. But that's really not a standard use so I can't complain too much.
Value
Great vintage sound, and super cheap compared to actual vintage gear.

The Wow Factor
I think it's cooler looking than even the original Big Muff. But some of that cool design gets in the way too, so you be the judge.

"Awesome pedal."

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
Awesome Awesome AWESOME pedal. The reason i didnt give it a 10 is because of some of the features.
Sound
The sound..Its OKAY, not the best. It sounds alot better with a Boss overdrive, so if your planning to get this make sure you have a overdrive or some kind of heavy distortion, just to bring out the muff tone more. The sustain is not the best, i would definetly recommend a Big Muff USA edition if you want more sustain, but if you want fuzz go with this.
Features
I think it should have come with a adapter hole, but mabye they didnt put it in because it is battery friendly. The input and output hold dont hold the cables very well but its easy to fix. Other than that its perfect.
Ease of Use
Oh yeah, its like the most user friendly pedal, its got 3 knobs but its just Volume, Sustain, and Tone.
Quality
Its made all out of metal, so its held up for alot of my gigs (although i dont recommend it for gigs, SEE in features.)
Value
This is probably the best deal you could ever get. i mean 60 bucks for a legendary pedal? Cant beat that.
Manufacturer Support
Well, to say ive never had to call the company for a complait or anything!
The Wow Factor
ehh. Its not like attractive but it does look cool.

"Tone and price make this a worthwhile investment"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

This will take care of my needs for years. Distortion with sustain make it desirable. I have a compressor in my line up, but since this has sustain it means a little less dancing on stage. It does with no doubt help achieve tones that are highly desireable. If lsot or stolen I would buy it again!
Sound
This box covers just about all of the bases for my distortion needs. It produces some great tones for rhythem and lead. Alone it dones a fine job, but couple it with a freq eq and the possibilities become vast. Kick in a bit of delay or reverb and I'm right where I want to be for many songs and styles! The price is right too! If lost or stolen I would but it again.
Features
The tone knob has a lot of variation. It is built sturdy with a good strong stomp switch. A small complaint would be that the input and output are reversed from normal pedal setup, but not really a big deal.
Ease of Use
NO problem dialing in the sustian and tone. The amout of distortion is set so tweak a bit and go! I use this box with other boss and voodoo labs boxes. Guitars are Les Paul classic and a Stratocaster. Amps I own are Fender Hodrod Deluxe and a Marshall JCM2000. I was blown away by the sound when using it with the Fender. The Marshall distortions are beautiful but the Big Muff adds yet another distortion type to my arsenal.
Quality
Looks good. Seems like it will last with reasonable care. Point is its so cheap not that big a pain to buy another anyway.
Value
For what it is the price is damn good.
Manufacturer Support
Have not had to use support. I own several Electro-Harmonex pedals and in the last 5 years (30 for one) I have never had a problem.

"Big muff- cool pedal with big tone"

This petal make you want to tear it up, and makes you look good while you are doing it.
Sound
I just played one of these in a music store and had a ball. The tone knob and sustain are very sensitive and responsive-- move them a bit and the sound really changes. Awesome tone.
Features
I agree that your foot can turn the knobs unexpectedly when turning it on and off-- it happened to me and I only used it for about 10 minutes. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, it is easy to plug the wrong chord into the in and outputs-- then it plays without it turned on (clean) but if you turn it on the sound goes dead. The reveiwer who returned his I bet had that problem. It's a pretty cool looking pedal.
Ease of Use
very easy
Quality
built like a tank
Value
seems awesome-- I wish it was lower so I could buy it today.

Sound
the sound is perfect from every thing especially experimental rock lots of feed back
Features

Quality

"DISGUSTING!"

Overall: 0.5 out of 5 stars

Disgusting fuzzy sound for the type of music I play. Too tinny, and then too bassy. Hard to get the right tones.
Features
Not many features.
Quality
Build quality is good, sometimes stops working, so a 5.

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars

ill be using the bif muff for a looooooooooooong time
Sound
the sound is just pure fuzz this is not for the punk rocker or for the metal heads this is for weezer (blue album days) fans smashing pumpkins (siamese dream period) fans ummm blur all bands that us the fuzz factor in their music
Features
the sustain is awesome as play it through a stack nice and loud prefferably marshall of and orange stack
Quality
this is probably the only thing i question with the big muff be careful how you treat it she's a big talker as far as the awesome sound she gives but she's still fragile in other words they dont take a beating well
Value
the price that zzound is charging is a good price because i paid 70.00 dollars for mine
