The bass is the real deal. In 45 years of professional playing, and did own a Steinberger back in the 80's, that I wasn't a fan of. I'd been avoiding the headless ever since. But I was in need of a 5-String and didn't want to spend big money on those major brand basses. So I was looking at the recent ads for the new Sire headless bass and it impressed me, due to it being lightweight and perfectly balanced without a headstock, of course. But that one isn't available until Dec. So I thought I'd check out other options and I kept getting pointed to this Cort bass. I pulled the trigger and I am glad I did. I've been doing studio sessions with it since it arrived. It came set up and in tune out of the box. Neck is wide but not uncomfortably so. Changins strings is easy and the lock system holds great. I've tuned it once since changing strings. And outside of my E string going a little flat, it's stayed in tune. It feels nice. The Mark bass preamp in it is simple and straight forward. And the Bartolini Mk1 pickups sound great. It records great and sounds great through an amp, no matter the style played. This one is a keeper.

"Amazing Bass that I can not recommend enough!"

This bass is fantastic. When I unboxed it the setup was almost perfect right out of the box. I did a very minor adjustment to lower the string height a hair but that was it. The neck is wide but feels amazing. It sits very well balanced on strap with zero dive (as it should being headless). This has replaced my Peavey G-Bass as my go to bass guitar. Unlike my Ibanez SR405 the low B is tight and snappy even though they are both 34" scales. The only thing I had to get used to is the pickup output. The Bartolini MK1 pickups are a mid output and quite a bit lower output than what I am used to. The pickups on my G-Bass (Peavey VFL) and my Ibanez (Powerspan pickups) are quite a bit hotter than the MK1s. So our sound guy has had to increase the gain on my channel about 60%. The MK1s do sound amazing and the EQ allows for a large tonal selection. I run mine with the blend at mid so both pickups are on. When rolled to either the neck or bridge the tone does get a little thin for my taste. Overall for the price this bass is amazing and punches well above its price point.

"What a great value bass guitar!"

Such a great instrument! Easily my favorite purchase in recent memory!
Sound
This bass sounds great out of the box, you will have to spend some time dialing tones to your liking, but whatever type of music you play, the tone is probably in there.
Features
The choice of woods is nice, I love the poplar burl top (yes, it's an actual top, not "simulated wood") a maple body & seven piece neck, the build quality seems quite good, especially when you consider the price point. I was struck as soon as I took it out of the bag, this bass doesn't look or feel like a "budget" instrument. The fretboard radius is pretty flat (I prefer that), and the neck profile is comfortable, it is a bit wide(ish) at the nut, very similar to a Fender Jazz V nut width, coming from narrower Yamaha necks I had no issues adjusting to this bass.Another nice feature not usually found on "budget" basses is the Zero Fret...I LOVE this, it makes it so I can change string gauges whenever I feel like it, without having to worry about filing the nut..and speaking of nut, the head piece (locking clamp) on this bass is super nice, solid as a rock and easy to use, string changes are a snap with this system.Once you break the habit of reaching for the headstock you'll appreciated the quality of the tuning machines too, they are rock solid, and hold tune really well...they are a smidge stiff, but I'd prefer that over loose and sloppy all day.The included gig bag is REALLY nice, I've bought basses that cost hundreds more and you don't even get a crappy gig bag, so THANK YOU Cort!
Ease of Use
The three band EQ is quite musical, and in my opinion quite good for a bass in this price range. I will say however, the output of this bass is a little lower than some of my other active basses, but I have a volume knob on my amp or modeler so...The three band EQ is nice though, and does a great job of bringing the tones out of the basic "vanilla" Bartolini MK1 pickups, they aren't bad by any means, but they don't stand out either...In my opinion swapping the preamp could elevate this bass from great to unbeatable...but it's WAY more than acceptable the way it is right out of the box, and I won't be swapping anything. The only real "miss" with the electronics is that when in passive mode there is no tone control, you just get volume & blend, I'm assuming Cort designed this "passive mode" as a type of emergency backup until you can swap the battery during your next break..or on the fly since there's an easy access battery door on the back.
Quality
The bass is put together REALLY nice, it feels solid, plays wonderfully, from a build quality stand point if Cort cut anything to keep costs down, I can't see it.
Value
This bass is absolutely worth the asking price, you're getting a bass that punches WAY above it's weight class...and speaking of weight, mine weighs 8.45 lbs, so it's easy on the back AND the wallet. This is my first headless bass, AND my first Cort bass...It will not be the last of either for me.
