Crate TX50DBE Limo Amp Customer Review

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars

i'll have and use it for years of busking hopefully, i would replace it with another one if it broke or was stolen. AGAIN it VERY LOUD & won't hurt your back and sounds nice.
Sound
This thing sounds really good for the price.it's a wee bit bright sounding, easy enough to roll off a bit. The speaker box being made of the light wieght plastic is a compromise, but if you play in the streets it's SO WORTH SAVING YOUR BACK!
Features
nice features, 2 channels work fine. The effects suck. A nice smooth reverb would've been great, oh well
Quality
seems very tough. the only thing that seems a bit cheap is the control knobs/pots. Again for under $400 this thing is fantastic!
Value
i own an AER battery powered amp as well. Cost: $1,100 and while it does sound better & has a nice reverb there's no way i would've got it if the new model of the Limo was available at the time
Manufacturer Support
haven't had to call them
The Wow Factor
it's compact & weighs nothing!

"This battery-powered amp is loud and lets you take your music anywhere."

This is a utility product used under special conditions. There is no need to replace it unless something that sounds much, much better comes on the market. When a.c. power is not available, it is indespensible. When you can plug into a.c., I would use another amp. The bottom line: Its does just what it's supposed to do. It could sound better, but it sounds a whole lot better than no sound reinforcement at all. This amp is capable of a fairly high SPL (sound pressure level).
Sound
Sound is thin. With a 10" speaker and 50 watts, lows should be more robust.
Features
You can't expect everything in a battery powered PA. The effects knob is not quality, but the other controls do what's expected of them.
Quality
No complaints in this area.
Value
I don't know of any peers but I think Crate could have brought this amp to market for less money.
Manufacturer Support
I've never had to deal with support with any of my Crate amplifiers.
The Wow Factor
It's just a battery powered amp. If you need one, this one will do the job. If you can't find an a.c. outlet nearby, you can still make a lot of sound. It's excellent for use when playing in off-stage events where the alternative would be to go entirely acoustic on vocal and instrument. I do a lot of music for youth groups and at times my guitar and I find ourselves a long way from a.c. power. If that is your need, then up the rating of this amp a couple of notches.

"Crate LIMO TX50DE"

Overall: 3 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I've had this battery amp for about 17 years as a musical animator guitarist and signer for a resort in Quebec. Since I had to use it in the woods, by a campfire where there were often more than a hundred people, I greatly appreciated the battery feature. It saved my life! It could be very loud! One thing: the equalizing section is kind of poor. Way too much highs with almost no bass. I had to complete it with an equalizer pedal to get something acceptable as a tone. second thing: no way to plug it in a wall electrical outlet when there is one available. One has to depend on the battery all the time. Which is a serious handicap. Third thing: the mother board broke after 2 or 3 years, in the middle of a performance I was doing somewhere. I got it repaired at my usual repair shop in Montreal. When I asked to the tech what was the trouble, he answered: "poor craftmanship". He had to go over most of the factory punch welding spots to reinforce them. The Crate service was difficult to reach by then... Forth: I had bought it new and I found it was overpriced by the time. Fifth: no line out... Not much to say about the electric guitar channel since I didn't really use it.

Musical Background:

Semi pro, I've been playing the guitar and signing for 50 years.

Musical Style:

I play folk, popular and rock in bands and on my own and at private events.

"Worth The Price!!!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
If you want to play in the woods and if you are a rock guitarist then this amp will suit you for playing in the woods. :-) I bought it for that very purpose. If you are an acoustic player it may work well for you too. I could not find a method to have enough volume without mike squel to use the PA channel so I cannot comment on that section.
Sound
The sound of this amp is excellent considering that it is a battery powered amp. I bought it so I could play at campouts and picnics where everyone else has brought an acoustic guitar. I am an electric player and my style doesn't work well with an acoustic. I am also a soloist specialist and acompany an acoustic performer with fills and solos that seem to work well.
Features
I had to purchase the foot switch seperately. It should be included with this amp. I would like it better if the power difference between the clean channel and the boost channel were better matched. Ther clean channel is not loud enough in an electric giggin situation. Yes I did say a gigging situation. This little amps is a screamer and I have played some gigs with it and using the distortion channel only it worked well.
Quality
For what it is it cannot be beaten. The controls seem a bit on the delicate side and I am pretty sure that the pots are directly mounted to a PC board so if it gets bumped hard it will more than likely crunch that board too.
Value
For what you spend you get you money's worth wihout question. If their service after sale wasn't so good I might think otherwise but they are there to back up what their products.
Manufacturer Support
Crate's service after the sale is THE BEST!!!! Period!!! End Discussion!!!! If you buy this amp and it breaks withinj the very liberal 2/5 YEAR warranty period they will fix it. If their official local service center cannot fix it they will replace it free. That is my experience with it. I am so impressed with this company that I have several of their amps. I only have a few issues with their DSP circuits which are a bit noisy compared to say Roland. The price is right and the quality is very very good.
The Wow Factor
Next time I will get the Bass amp version and use my pedal board for effects. It is bigger, made from Plywood and is just as powerful.

"Good acoustic guitar but lousy with mics and electric guitars."

Overall: 1.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)

Sound
The amplifier sounds best with acoustic guitars over electric. The overdrive circuit isn't that great for lead tones. With an acoustic electric I can get a pretty nice sound. Unfortunately, The effects circuit died about a month after I got it. It was supposedly repaired by the place I purchased it from but the effects have never worked right since.
Quality
Effects broken about a month after purchase.
Value
This amp was too expensive for the quality.

Musical Style:

All guitars styles except flamenco and classical
