Overall this product is great and lives up to its name. BOSS
Sound
The sound is perfect. This is my first digital studio and I show it off. When I sing in to the mic, I play back its awesome.
Features
Great features. You can add effects to you voice, guitar and even keyboard.
Quality
I haven't had any problem with it yet. The way it looks, I probably wont. The quality is to a T.
Value
I would have to say the support was great, because the salesperson selling it to me answered all the questions about it. Other than that I haven't had to call customer service.

Sound
If you're on a budget...'dis is da s#*t!!!

You'll love the onboard guitar / bass / vocal processor AND an fairly useful drum machine.

Like any electronic "gadget," a certain care should be taken with the machine, but it seems sturdy enough.

Price, against features, very well placed.

"a great buy, and great recordings"

Although the learning curve can be difficult, especially when arranging drum patterns, it is easily the best hard disk recorder i have used, within one week i was uploading my songs onto my computer then converting them to mp3s and emailing them to everyone i knew. the computer interface is also confusing sometimes, but the helpline is always on, and very helpful. This is a great recorder that has 64 virtual tracks, bouncing and mastering capabilities. if you are a singer/songwriter and dont have a band behind you, this is an easy way to get your songs out there without having to do much work, especially if this is your first time into the recording world. i definatly recommend it.
Sound
the drum sounds are somewhat weak, and the amp models sound muddy sometimes, but the vocals are fantastic.

"So good I made a CD of songs!"

Overall: 4.5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Would hate to have to relearn everything, if I get another, it will be another Boss.
Sound
Amazing amazing amazing! Packed with features and effects, it takes a while to learn but it is awesome. I recorded an entire CD of songs with mine, hear it at geocities.com/songpoemhits and it sounds very very good. Too bad it only has one built in microphone, but no biggie. 1 GB memory cards are in the $20 range now. No hiss, no static, better than equivalent Fostex. Get it!
Features
Really packed with features, guitar effects, so much it is really hard to learn at first, but it's worth the effort.
Ease of Use
It is really hard at first, but after you learn it it's pretty easy.
Quality
Seems very durable. Had mine 2 years now.
Value
Outrageous value.
Manufacturer Support
Good website, with updates and PDFs of the manual & other stuff.
The Wow Factor
An old analog user's dream machine. Estremely quiet, no hiss, and no rewinding!

"A BR-1180 in sheep's clothing!"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
This unit rocks! WELL worth every cent I paid. Seems VERY close in form and function to the Boss BR1180. Has almost identical effects and sounds. Recording quality is about the same too. I sold my BR1180 since it had a lot more than I needed. Turns out the 864 has almost as much, but a more than half the price!
Features
This thing has more features than advertised. All the mastering effects of the 1180 are there. Even most of the insert effect patches are named the same. Only drawback is having only 4 sliders to control the 8 tracks. You need to hit a button that lets you get back and forth between tracks 1-4 and 5-8. For the price, it's no big deal.
Quality
Everything Boss (Roland) is built to last. Since it's battery powered, you would think Boss has a lot of faith that the unit is durable enough to travel with.
Value
Value is the key word here. This unit is not even comparable to the BR532, and is VERY similar to the 1180. Worth EVERY cent.
Manufacturer Support

"If you can just get through the manual."

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
I belive I"ll have this recorder for many years before I will upgrade, and when I do it will be another BOSS. The only thing I would do is make it more easy to use.As far as recorded sound,I"m impressed.
Sound
Great sounds.Something there for every music taste. Add a pre-amp to warm things up a little.
Features
Can"t belive you spend 500.00 dollars and you still have to buy a power supply
Quality
As far as looks, this is a very nice well made unit.As for quality, I"ll have this unit for a long time.
Value
A good product at a good price for a well equiped recorder
Manufacturer Support
I"ve had to call for teck support. The people there were somewhat helpfull but always seem as if I were bothering them and would rush through things.
The Wow Factor
Very nice!!!

"Little box for those who want a good recording hardware without spendig much money"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
Sound
I'm a hobbist musician and this thing is well built and has a very good quality. It's very clean.
Features
It has all the features you would like. It records in 8 tracks, bounce them and has a mastering toolkit. You can convert those tracks to wav format and export them to your PC. Do you want more? It can read midi files to use them as drum patterns and can import wav files to one of the 64 virtual tkacks avalaible. You can also use wav sounds as drum sounds.
Quality
Very good Quality
Manufacturer Support
I haven't needed support yet. The only thing I must say is that it works with Windows 98. Using a generic driver it can recognize the Boss BR-864 as a card reader.

Quality

Value

"boss br-864 owner: the six month mark"

Overall: 5 out of 5 stars
(see rating details)
This review has been selected by our experts as particularly helpful.
as long as computers have usb ports i will cherish my br-864.
Sound
it has a 3 to 1 compression rate so it isn't the best sounding, but it is the best sounding below $1000. The bouncing and mastering toolkit make the tracks sound respectable and the usb make it easy to transfer back up tracks and finnished songs as wav. or asf. files. The effects are very useable and the drum machine gives you a few options.
Features
it has everything i needed to make my demo and record ideas.
Quality
i bring it everywhere and have had no bad experiences, i only worry that it will be stolen. that is why i bought the optional lock, so i can secure it like a laptop.
Value
for the price, who are you to resist? no other recorder is as friendly to guitarists/bassists/singer/songwriters and offers as many options. If it was stolen i would get another one.
Manufacturer Support
i've never contacted boss/roland but there website is great. you can get all the info including manuals and other support.
The Wow Factor
the ease of the usb port makes this product extremely useful. i bought 512mb CompactFlash card online for $40 so now i have 4 hours more of recording time before i load my tracks onto my pc.
