'Till death us do part, I'm afraid! This guitar is likely to completely satisfy my needs in this particular area for long years to come. Unfortunately, they are now a discontinued model, otherwise I would be trying to replace it were it to suffer massive misfortune. However, given that I wouldn't be able to replace it I now find myself spoiled for most guitars retailing at less than $3,500 (Australian). Played with a mate's new Maton EA80C the other night and it was the Alarez's equal-ish. Nice looks and sound but the Alvarez is just a little better.
Sound
Lovely bright sound. Plays beautifully and easily molds to your playing style.
Heaps of resonance - hardly need to plug it in because that big Rosewood and Spruce dreadnought body just booms out across the room.
Features
Came with strings - a really good point. Found the strings very useful for playing with!
Seriously, I bought the guitar and it arrived as a guitar with a cable to plug it in - no extras and no need for extras.
Ease of Use
Machine heads work well, nut is great, whole thing just works.
Look, I've only been playing for a year (but seriously putting some work into it) and this is my third guitar (classical, electric and now this one). Adapting to it took - oh maybe 200 milliseconds!
Quality
Beautiful. Love the satin finish and the antique violin top is just lovely. In the rare moments that I haven't got it cradled lovingly in my arms coaxing series of notes from it I stick back on its stand in the corner of my room and it is then that I see just how lovely it looks and appreciate the quality of craftsmanship.
Value
Comparable to the best of the Matons or Martins but in a lower price bracket.
Manufacturer Support
Great communication with Alvarez on the one occasion that I have contacted them. No issue but I just wanted to check out whether they have an Australian agent. Sadly no, but that's not a real issue.
The Wow Factor
It just looks great! Antique violin finish, gold machine heads, abalone shell inlays, what more could I possibly say?
