I have been playing on acoustic kits since i was 15 and I can honestly say it feels more realistic than any other electric kit i have played on. The roland mesh triggers are great, but feel like hitting a trampoline not a drum head. If you're tired of programming drums on your keyboard or drum pads, buy this. Thank you alesis!
Sound
The response on these heads is more than amazing, when i put my headphones on and plug in to Battery 3 all of my dynamics and articulation are there. With the added feel of the real drum heads I couldn't believe i was playing electric via midi! I gave it a nine because it is still somewhat noisy when you start hitting the kick drum, however I live in an apartment and have no complaints from my neighbors to date.
Features
It includes all the mounts and cables you need, including a power supply for the interface (which most usb midi products don't) and fairly simple to follow instructions. It also includes a demo of EZdrummer and a few other software applications, so you can get started on your jamming without having to buy additional software right away. And it is that its expandable, so you don't have to be jealous of anyone with the dm10 studio kit because they have 2 extra triggers!
Ease of Use
The velocity and sensitivity controls are a going to take a little bit for a user thats new to midi to grasp, however, if the proper time and attention is spent to reducing crosstalk between the triggers and velocity/sensitivity this is a very compact and natural feeling addition to your home production center.
Read the manual for the interface!
Quality
Everything is very solid and doesn't move, even when i had a friend who plays his drums MUCH harder than i do come and test it out. If you are planning on using this for traveling or shows you may want the pro kit. A lot of the hardware is made from plastic, which has the potential to wear and tear faster if it is being broken down and rebuilt on a regular basis.
Value
You can't beat this for the price. I have been trying to build a midi kit for some time, but i never saw it being a financial possibility. I have played the roland TD 20, and I went into this purchase with very low expectations on performance, but i was literally blown away. You can not beat this for the price.
