"dont judge the pads when reviewing the module! 14 yrs of use and still rocking! (on my second unit only due my own abuse)"

i just wish i could actually load other sounds into this module. would be great if i could have some memory of sorts with this.
Sound
the sounds are great. if you've been around the digitial world for awhile this is incredible until you get to the roland td12 and up. i also have the td3 this is great!
Features
again, until you hit the roland td12 this has more features and sounds the lesser rolands.
Ease of Use
perfect, out of the box and after wiring the triggers. i barely had anything to do w/ adjustments for xtalk, etc. that is coming from a fairly good understanding of triggers work. if you dont understand how or where to place your triggers well you'll be in hell but thats with any unit. it also depends if you're using pads or acoustics.
Quality
great! its durable, ive used it extensively on the road studio and practice. its had booze and all other sorts of "liquids" dumped or shot on it. its been dropped and even fallen of speakers. after the scratches, wear, and abuse it still rocks.
Value
nothing touches this for the price. i have 2 units and other rolands. this rocks. even use it in combination w/ td3. just way too many much better sounds.
Manufacturer Support
dont know? never needed them after 14 years of using this.
The Wow Factor
its hot! its all black. easy to read screen... like ive said, until you jump into the 'over 1000$' category, you wont touch this. these other reviews are reviewing the pads as well. the pads that come with this (if you get the kit) are crap. bad mounts and all. the module rocks.

"Great Drum Mod. for the Price"

As long as it continues to work I'll keep it. Probably would go with a roland next time
Sound
I think the sounds in the DM 5 for the money spent are pretty darn good. Have had this unit for almost 10 years and it still works fine.
Features
Ok
Ease of Use
Its ok
Quality
Like I said I've used this same unit for 10 years and we play everything from clus to fairs and shows and a lot of them and knock on wood its still working five. I have it mounted in a rack and it is taken care of.
Value
Yes I also have a Roland PD 7 and it is quite hard to operate.
Manufacturer Support
Talked with them twice about operational isues and was given the wrong info. both times so I went to the manual and got it taken care of.

"Not bad, but look around."
Verified Customer

Sound
The drum sounds aren't the best. There's not a large library of sounds to choose from either. With some work you could build maybe one good kit out of all the sounds available.
Features
The unit has a lot of programmable features for each trigger input and sound. I had virtually no cross-talk or sensitivity problems and the v-curve set to 1 had excellent feel response.
No grooves to play along with, or anything. Just sounds.
Quality
Lots of plastic, I'm used to metal rack-mount devices. The spin-knob doesn't track 100%, it likes to skip numbers.
Value
Having it to do over again, I'd get the Roland TD-3 instead.
Manufacturer Support
I rate this a 10, since I never needed them.
The Wow Factor
The rack-mount chasis is much nicer than the Roland tablet style.

"BUYER BEWARE. Sorry not dependable, additional wasted cost later if not sooner, sorry support. Support is only verbal!"
Looking for another competitors product now. But I'm pretty gun shy after this has cost me approximately $250 over the purchase price of $400.
Contact me if you want the whole story!
Sound
Some useful sounds but most are really not useful hen set up good professional sounds.
Features
No accessories unless the manual is one.
Ease of Use
If mine would work it might be ok. The "Value" dial is junk. It jumps forward, backward, won't stay on your selection, it's like it just goes where it wants.
Quality
Minw has been a LEMON from day one and has cost me extra money, extra time, and stage embarassment!
Value
Don't waste your money. It will cost you more as soon as warranty is out if not before!
Manufacturer Support
BEWARE! Seems they change service centers like socks. They sent me to one, which is now not connected to them, in TX and I'm in OK. Cost me $100 plus, time, travel, lose of use just to have they tell me no problem found. It has problem 2 or 3 times out of five when turned on! Manufacture say's take it to another of their NOW service center. Sure right! For another $100 plus to hear them say no problem found. They should be with me when on stage and the unit just freezes or just quits!
The Wow Factor
Sorry!

"dont want, dont need"
dont get it its not worth it so dont even think about it
Sound
1st Electronic Drum Set ever used and personally, don't really like it should of saved and got a real one. sounds are okay, overall its not realistic enough.
Features
i havn't got any other accessories with it yet but if im not mistake ain't there suppose to be like 2 drums right in the middle? peddles are frustrating, keep moving around, drum pads keep moving around no matter how tight i get them.
Ease of Use
really easy to use not very fun for long time use but very easy to use. modifying the sound is prob the hardest part since i did not receive a manual, very playable well except for rolls and other quick beats
Quality
not really made well, like i said before drum pads and arms move to easily no matter how tight i get them, not very reliable for long uses (hours), can depend on it but still worried since it was like $450, DO NOT USE ON THE ROAD, not realistic to sound or arrangement or hardly anything else, don't seem like it will last a year and maybe 2 emphasize on the maybe part
Value
not really worth it unless your super bored and your life suks
Manufacturer Support
aint used support (yet)
The Wow Factor
not really a want trust me if you got in right this moment give ya an hour and you'll be bored again

"Don't buy this thing..."
Verified Customer

Save up for a Roland HD-1. You are wasting your money on this. Save up for something better and you will be greatly more satisfied in the future.
Sound
Basic, mediocre sounds. There are only 21 drum kits. Customizing kits is frustrating and takes patience.
Features
Not too many features. Headphone jack is in the front. LCD display is fairly easy to read.
Ease of Use
The DM5 unit & pads I use were donated to our church from another church. Like I said before, the DM5 sounds are basic and there's nothing that really stands out. My own personal drumset is a Roland V-Stage and this DM5 is such a disappointment. "Machine-gunning" when doing rolls, can't detect flams unless spaced far apart, unresponsive to nuances. There's not much to learn with this unit.
Quality
Adjustment knob skips around. Very poor quality.
Value
In my opinion, not even worth $100. It's a good thing I didn't pay anything for this donated unit.
Manufacturer Support
NA. Never used it.
The Wow Factor
Believe me, you don't want this. Get a colonoscopy instead.

"Not a good value for the money"
Verified Customer
zZounds has verified that this reviewer made a purchase from us.
im replacing the unit as soon as i get enough money.
Sound
sound is ok but not realistic. cant do rolls or flams cant mute cymbals
Ease of Use
it is easy to use. the beginning students liked the variety of sounds
Quality
drum stand is mickey mouse. i had to buy a lot of hardware and redo the mounts to keep the drums pads from sagging
Value
not worth the 450.00 i paid for it.
Manufacturer Support
dm5 drum module failed after warranty. have to send it to a repair facility clear across the country
The Wow Factor
it was a novelty to the students for a few weeks. we did use it for our spring concert.
