Best device ever. Live II inspired me to create music and finish my tracks! A lot of fun and cheerful evenings with it. On the streets, in the forest and on the balcony, I use it everywhere. Love it, really!

This unit was delivered within 2 days of ordering it. My first impression after unboxing the MPC Live II was being excited. It's been more than 20 years since I purchased the MPC 2000 in 1998 which was the last Akai I used before buying the Live II. I will admit that there is a steep learning curve, but also plenty of resource tutorials on YouTube. I am a month into using it and learn something new every time I power the Live II on. At the time of this review, I'm learning how to use the MPC on version 3.0 beta which has many new features. My background is being a DJ, Producer and Remix Artist. There are many new features under the hood and the creative possibilites are endless. Extremely happy with this purchase.. 2thumbs Up.

Way overly complicated. Stick to the machine is way better than this overpriced paper weight. Save yourself the headache with this thing. Get a machine

"Reaction to harmful chemical"

After 2-3 hours of this being in my house I developed a pretty strong headache from the new electronics smell so I looked on the box for a possible chemical and it has Diisononyl phthalate witch is a Cancerous, causing chemical that when exposed to causes headaches, I then experienced small seizures, which isn’t rare for me but I haven’t had one in a while. I then started having coughing fits shortly after that I threw up my dinner. So at that point I decided to put it back in its box, wash my hands and go to bed. While trying to go to sleep, I noticed my eyes felt puffy after I fell asleep I got up at 1am, Sat next to the module in the box and could notice my eyes getting Puffier and puffier to the point where you could slightly notice it in a mirror. Let’s just say I’m not happy whatsoever because to be satisfied akai would literally have to build me a made to order live 2 without using this chemical what so ever. Not that it matters at this point but my blemished mpc never came with the template demo screen you get when you first turn the machine on and this really sucks for a 1st time user but that’s besides the point this thing is made out of poison

"Basic functionality Review"

I took this machine out of its box for the second time since I got it, The first time I took it out I got rather sick from the chemical. Well, I got super bored and decided to play with it. I’m gonna get my honest review of its functionality so far. For a first time user of a groove box personally I think this thing is kind of way overpriced trash just out of the box. This machine tries to do entirely way too much and sort of fails it’s main purpose which is to make music. it’s overly complicated and most of the options seems unnecessary like I’m sure they serve a purpose but just loading pads with presets seems to be a problem and I’m under the impression this brand spent too much time on the tech side of this and not enough on the actual music side . This machine seems to give you too much to handle and then when you start digging into it, maybe not enough at all. As a musician going on 19 years I can honestly say I could build a more professional groove box preset then this brand. Music takes organization and these presets have next to none this company honestly expects their customers to do their work for them, and I can’t stand that about a company. Not only are these presets unorganized there’s only presets on one bank and the rest are empty Meanwhile, when you’re playing a demo song The pad is supposed to flash when a sample has been triggered on your presents But only 2 or 3 of the pads get triggered, meaning that these demo songs are playing samples that aren’t even in your pad presets and it’s not like they’re in another bank personally this just seems unprofessional. They honestly made such a complex machine. People have no choice, but to go through the user manual, and the overall quality of the samples are not to the standards that this brand used to live by compared to their older products from videos that I’ve seen online. Going through some of the demos, I’m honestly hearing very little useful stuff that could be used in a super hard rap beat. so far they all seem to have a vibe of pretty corny and cheesy all while being pretty expensive sounding the audio quality is on point but rapping over these sounds doesn’t exactly seem appealing to me at a real 1st look. Now I’ve only begun to scratch the surface but so far everything has the same vibe And it seems to be a Notch or 2 above mediocre on the rap side of this machine based off of its presets. Another thing I find awkward about this machine is when you’re listening to a demo and you hit the stop button the machine will keep going until it’s feels it can stop, Sometimes it’s cool but generally when you press a stop button, you tend to want it just to stop Maybe that can be changed idk. But overall, I’m getting the sense that this brand genuinely has a problem with work ethic based off of the presets so they expect their customers to figure out how to program it and it’s not even easy. supposedly 10 gigs of samples yet they rock the same vibe I definitely expected More diversity. Now squares are typical on groove boxes but Rectangles are better because you can get that double finger going on while playing the hi-hat, Also labeling The pads instruments instead of numbers would have been nice. I just checked the pads and had to wipe them down because they were dirty already I really didn’t even mean to finger drum on this thing I meant to hook it up to my drum set but I did start with the fingers just to find a hard beat, and once I did I couldn’t even load it onto my pads. Honestly, as I write this review I’m starting to Put the pieces together on how much of a joke this thing really is for the cost, which leads me to the price tag. $1,300 brand new is way out of touch with reality. You would be lucky to pull off a full rap record with this machine without it all sounding the same. Then after I bought it I found out these have software issues from time to time and mine doesn’t seem to make a sound out of the Built-in speakers. Sort of under the impression that this is just a money grab because this registers more as a novelty item then a serious workhorse I was tricked into buying the 2 because it sounded better when in reality I should’ve stuck with the original and saved money. There’s something very misleading about this Machine and I honestly wouldn’t trust this brand for another purchase
Sound
The sound quality is about all this model has to offer
Features
I’m finding a good 90% of this machine useless just getting started
Ease of Use
This machine is entirely way too complicated to use and I’m getting the feeling that theyvkind of just threw this machine together and rushed it completely. Once you figure it out, you can get some decent samples, but just nothing super great
Quality
This product is made with a chemical that gave me a reaction and I’m not happy about it. With that being said I can see the pads, not lasting very long, but the overall plastic would probably last a little while
Value
This product should be worth around $600 max if it didn’t have this toxic chemical in it
Manufacturer Support
Never dealt with Akai And never will again their customer service is terrible. The product is filled with poison and their samples just ain’t hitting
The Wow Factor
I’ve spent a few hours playing with it and I’m already bored of the sounds it produces so far I would not advise spending $1300 on this device. It’s flashy with bells and whistles but the overall musical use is lacking in my opinion
