Solid Sitka spruce top. Mahogany back and sides.
Overview
The DM9 is Tacoma's #1 selling guitar and its 100% made in USA. This version, the DM9C, features a cutaway body with solid Sitka Spruce top, solid Mahogany back & sides, Rosewood fingerboard and a "Tone Shaped" bridge. The "Tone Shaped" bridge is wide and flat on the bass side, and narrow and peaked on the treble side. A Luthier's rule of thumb is that low, wide braces are best for bass frequencies, and tall, thin braces are best for treble frequencies. Tacoma applied this thinking to the bridge and it works. Other features include the body and neck having Tortoise binding and a sound hole ring made with four-color herringbone.
The Tacoma Guitars "VS" bracing is a radical advance over traditional acoustic guitar bracing. We haven't "adjusted" a design from the 1930's, we've applied sixty years of learning.
Tacoma Guitars braces are triangular in shape because they have equal strength to a rounded brace with less mass.
Lower mass allows the top to vibrate more freely, and increases the guitar's response.
Slim neck with low shoulders for comfortable play.

"Awesome guitar"
I picked up a Tacoma DM9C at a local shop because I had brought my Gibson in for some set up work. This guitar is really nice sounding. It was used and the previous owner had a bone nut and bridge put in. The sound really blows me away. Very comfortable feel to the guitar. I am so used to my Gibson that it usually takes me a while to get used to a different guitar. However, this Tacoma is really a player. Not the fanciest looking guitar in the world but it sure does play well. Very glad I picked it up.
