Schecter Black Jack S1 Customer Review
If it was a neck thru construction and had a better neck pickup it would have got a 10 - but even without it, id still give it an 8 overall. This is a great guitar - consider buying it.
Sound
I play in a rock band and I run my black jack through a TSL 100 - the clean channel on the neck is solid but it needs a bit of tweaking to get a nice soft tone, the OD1 crunch is is nice but a little thin. The OD2 on the other hand.. OH MY LORD. The sound is amazing.. it's brutal and sounds better than my Gibson LP studio and is just as good as my PRS custom. I couldnt believe it. It is this wall of warm, solid yet crystal clear sound. Pinch Harmonics squeal and the sustain is great - I thought the set neck would hinder this but it doesnt. Fast Fast Fast action - great for shredding. I played 40 odd guitars before settling on this one as its the sound I was after - so buy it if you want to play rock/metal - dont buy it if you play jazz/blues etc because the neck just doesnt have the guts of a gibson or tele.
Features
The vol is interesting as on the bridge its actually the 2nd vol knob. It takes a bit to get used to because at the start I was forever grabbing the wrong vol. Best features are the pickups - great for metal.
Ease of Use
Fast fast action - and for how low it is, the sustain is unbelieveable.
Quality
Great quality - no nicks or anything. The thing stays… read more in tune as well.. played mine for about 10 hours before it needed retuning - and it was only one string that was out by a tiny bit.
Value
I would have hoped for a better clean sound on the neck for the money paid - but the distortion through the bridge is so amazing that I gave it an 8. For the money, the bridge alone is worth it.
