zZounds Gear Experts Say...
Hear the difference ribbon tweeters make! With an upgraded 140-watt amp and versatile EQ controls, the 2nd-gen R65 delivers a wide horizontal sweet spot.
Overview
Clarity is king -- and with the R65 V2s, you'll hear every single detail of your music -- no problematic trouble spots will escape your ear again! If you're mixing or mastering high-resolution audio, the R65 V2 will ensure that you hear every nuance thanks to its custom 6.8-inch Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter that responds to the subtlest waveforms and the highest frequencies.
You'll hear all of the air and space that has become synonymous with high-resolution audiophile sessions. The AMT design also allows the R65 V2 to handle 8 to 13 times the projection area of more traditional tweeter designs, while its unique housing constrains this projection area strictly to the horizontal axis. The result is a very wide sweet spot with focused vertical dispersion, minimizing reflections from your desk, floor, or ceiling.
The 6.5-inch, custom coated, woven composite LF driver produces a more dynamic output than conventional designs thanks to the rigid cone's ability to maintain a more constant dispersion pattern across its frequency response range, resulting in transparent sound with reduced reflections. Biamped with 140W RMS of Class D power, 75 watts driving the woofer, and 45 watts driving the tweeter, the R65 V2 ranks among the most powerful monitor speakers in its category.
A set of four acoustic tuning controls allows you to tailor the 65 V2's frequency response to compensate for the anomalies of nearly any mix environment, so you can expect predictable, consistent performance… read more in the event you use them in more than one place. read less

"A guitar player/causal review for RV65v2"

Pros:No “HISS” unless your ears are on the ribbon speaker, however even that is very faint. No buzz/hum or pink noiseFractal FM9 sounds more natural and fuller with these speaker’s vs the Eris 4.5 I used.Better bass response than a Yamaha HS7.Casual listening and gaming are a delight after burn-in.Speakers can do the flat frequency thing to hear details of your mix, if you so desire.Cons:Not many reviews yet.Ears may feel uncomfortable before burn-in, even at low levels.Styrofoam in shipping box could be better.Side notes: To my ears, these really do sound like the HS7, but with a better listening experience. Bass is more present but doesn’t overpower the rest…unless you want it too. I was having ear fatigue for the first 2 days of burn-in even at low volume. After the speakers worn in a bit, my ear doesn’t hurt as much. R65v2 is a solid upgrade for guitar amp sim players, my Fractal unit eats it up! I imagine the R80v2 would sound even more natural to a guitar amp.
